What would you suggest for someone who wants to get into photography? :idk:

Any camera with decent manual modes. Preferably an SLR. :idk:

If you want to learn photographic theory, you need to be able to manually control aperture and shutter speed (and a few other things). So make sure whatever camera you get has this capability. A great extra is the ability to shoot RAW files (for maximum post processing flexibility).

You can do well buying a used "entry level" digital SLR from either Canon or Nikon. They both make fantastic SLRs.

If you want a point-n-shoot, I'd recommend one of the Canon G series. They have full manual capabilities and can shoot RAW. But a new one costs as much as the cheaper digital Rebel SLRs, so you might as well get the bigger one. But you can get an older G for pretty cheap, so that might be an option.
