The synth community is plagued by the same individuals who have a lot of nice equipment but rarely release anything worth a shit with them, but are good advertising platforms for all of these companies. I appreciated it before when it seemed like smaller brands got the spotlight, but now I feel like it has become a problem and nobody can give their actual opinion on anything due to fear of losing their free synths/pedals/demos.

I don't mind it with CBA since they make quality pedals that have significant depth, but idk, the whole culture around synths and pedals on youtube has become artificial to me.
Demos = Advertising
Reviews = Critique

I wouldn't expect people who make part (or even all) of their income from demos to bite the hand that feeds. And I wouldn't expect people who offer honest critiques including negative feedback to spend hours of prep, recording/filming, editing, etc. since there's no financial incentive to do so.

The only critiques you see are generally on the forums by regular users of varying skills and styles, some of the audio magazines/blogs written reviews, or enthusiasts where the quality of the videos are usually that of smart phone recordings.

So then we're left with the same cycle...find out about a piece of gear (usually online or at a show or something), research it on forums, watch demo videos, decide if you really want it and whether you want new/used, try it out and either keep it or re-sell it for a small loss. Or try it out in a store (if they have the piece of gear in question), but then you're most likely only having 10-20 minutes playing it through a different amp/guitar/setup at bedroom volumes, and if you want it you have to pay full retail price + tax (or at minimum feel compelled to purchase something to help the local shops out and then buy it online). Guitar Center being the exception cos I don't care about trying out pedals there and not buying anything.

Never owned a CBA because they're always out of my price range. This would be the one I go into debt for. I'm guessing there's no way to record and save the loops internally? I saw a post on IG of someone from Disaster area using it with their Qconnect to access presets, which was beautiful from a functionality perspective.

This is the best demo I’ve seen so far at actually demonstrating the pedal and what it does for sure. I will say, I love glitch pedals and weird sounds but have the absolute worst time trying to work them into the music I make. This is definitely on my list though. It seems to encapsulate all the glitch stuff that I like along with a looper.

I've been trying to not buy anything until after the Matriarch is released, but this thing broke my will.

Ordered :facepalm:

The MOOD will let you pass audio back and forth between the left and right channels, so you could save those settings to a Favorites box, and then remix your loops (from something like an EHX Nano 360 with 11 loops). That'd probably be the most cost-effective way to revisit loops for live usage, plus you could keep letting them evolve by dumping them back & forth between channels, although I imagine it'd quickly turn into a wall of washer-and-dryer sounds.

This demo utilizes several of the templates provided in the manual.

You can also hear these settings on Soundcloud, if you haven't already made your way over there. (lots of video game glitches, Thermae-esque jumps)

For once, I would totally love hearing a Johnny Demarco demo for the MOOD, if only for a change of pace. But it seems like the flood of glad handing demos only intensify lately, but that's what the landscape has become. But if that flood sells out the first and second run of pedals, hopefully it'll allow for cooler tools to pass through the fray, eventually. I mean, I still primarily buy outdated gear manufactured by mega corporations with lots of inherent limitations & build flaws (because thrift), so watching really old YT potato demos, one fanzine reader writes-type pre-anger management vids, and awkward eBay demonstrations et al are really refreshing antidote all this hype dust. Will any of us be around in 20 years when all demos are 15 seconds long, and RoboJuan and RoombaNick are still in the same dimly lit garage and slinging something for 3.5 hrs?

If you are reading this in the future, please accept this message of peace:

Johnny would slay glitch demos. I miss his junky voice presenting vguitars and stuff
imagine finding out your son is your daughter & she's into noise music

Yes! Exactly.

Demonstration just illustrates... it demonstrates. It shows some stuff. There is no inherent
promise of objectivity, critical evaluation, or impartiality.

A review should consist of critique based upon knowledge of the field in question, the history therein,
and current developments in the evolving world, all while being upfront about any affiliations,
associations, familiarities, or prejudices. A review from a partial critic can still be useful if they
admit their partiality and a reader can keep that in mind when parsing the critique.

The other thing is that Chase Bliss has, in two recent pedals, collaborated with two gear builders who are on ILF.
If the Chase Bliss offering is too expensive, then a person can always try to get a CooperFX Generation Loss or
Outward, or a David Rolo Stamme[n] or Molecular Disruptor.

So there are options out there.

Got mine in on Saturday afternoon and recorded one "song" on Saturday and one on Sunday, then set it to some nice stock footage. Not really a "demo" where I show how the pedal works, more of a "here's what it can do." Just the MOOD and some extra reverb on parts in ProTools. First CBA I've actually been really interested in and didn't just get on a good trade bargain, lol.

This sounds great! Also, the stock footage selection is perfect; Mood AF!

I'm still not entirely sure what I even want to do with the Mood. Right now, I'm thinking I'm going to pair it with my Mono Station. I'm also really tempted to work my CT5 in for ultimate glitch looping

Thank you for copying my comment in the reply so it would embed properly. Can't ever get that to work on here for some reason.

I haven't even tried using it with other pedals yet. Gonna start simple tomorrow with like... a digidelay. All I've got is cheapos for my band board right now. I'm hoping to sell some gear this week so I can purchase some more heavy-hitter pedals and maybe the Minilogue XD or a 0-Coast and get back to making ambient stuff like this more regularly. But I mean... there's enough in the MOOD to keep me busy on its own for a while.

Does anyone have this pedal and the Fabrikat? It would be interesting to hear comparisons of the two. So far, I'm not hearing anything that makes me NEED this pedal, but it does sound pretty awesome.

Soooooo, seeing as how this is DOOM spelled backwards, is there like a secret doom setting of some sort? ;)
