I wear 12 in Onitsuka Tiger Ultimate 81s (my favorite shoe...and beast lasting).
12 in puma Roma.
12 in Vans Half-Cab (though I hate thouse but I use them to thrash)
13 in Nike workout shoes too.
13 in some Adidas (they are owned by they same conglomerate as Clark's or something...the sizes vary a lot)
11.5 in converse, they've switched the toe in those to make them more stubby...they don't look as good.
Tiger Mexico 66 and Serrano run a bit smaller in the toe than Ultimate 81 to me. I don't really like the stubby look of Mexico 66 in person and the Serrano have a sharp cut at the arch that took some getting used to. I stretched my Serrano 12s to fit slightly (just slightly tighter at the little toe than Ultimate 81). Serranos are less durable than Ultimate 81 and Mexico 66. I think my actual ascics, pre Onitsuka split thing are a bit tougher.

I loved my golas. Still have them. No idea what model they were, but I've never seen another pair like them. Probably my favorite shoes ever. They are kind of Frozen in an odd shape and I haven't had the foot guts to break em back in.

I can break a pair of shoes in a day. Bought combat boots that lasted 6 hours once. I've always been that way.

I had some other suggestions for styles but I forgot what they were. I should wrote it down yesterday haha (I just bought three more pairs after thrashing one pair of Vans and two tigers). Nikes generally last about a month of hard use for me.

Golas and tigers have been by far my favorite.

i wore 8s for most of my life (up to ~40); when my weight went up to 225 i had to wear 9s; nowadays i'm wearing 8.5"/European 42. i had to order 3 pairs of a couple of pairs...i had to get the Pumas in 8, and my Five Ten Guide Tennies were the first pair i had to go down to 8.5.

I am a 10.5 in most shoes but any asics with a split tongue I always order an 11 (it looks weird when you can see your socks in those)
also instapump furys

I have my last pair of Fury listed now on E-bay and am getting crazy low offers for them, I think I may just keep em

I think you'll be fine. The Onitsukas that fit me best are all in 8 (usually what fits). Once drunkenly bought some half a size larger and yep, they were half a size too big.

I also picked up some Puma weave sneakers in 10 too but I am very familiar with Puma sizing:

Pumas usually run about 1/2 big. I would get 11.5. it ain't too much extra room in 12s though. They just run a bit wider and puma varies a bit more with style (basically because they have way more styles). I'd say that Roma's are about 10% wider than tigers.

Gola and tigers were pretty close.

I want some nylon harriers haha.

yeah, IIRC i had to go down half a size in my Pumas too. Asics and Adidas run true to size.

I have had enough of my adidas Iniki runners
gotta get rid of these

they look awesome and the first time you put them on they feel great but full boost with no structure and no support is so unstable
after about an hour of casual wear I had turned my ankle and come off the footbed repeatedly (you can feel your toes and side of your foot hit the pavement)

I am guessing these would be killer for a smaller person, but not for me.

as a side note these are tough on the re-sale market because of that lack of structure I wore these a total of 2 times and they look good and broken in.

I have a really hard time buying shoes. For the past few years, I've been trying to dress in such a way as to not give people too strong of an impression of what sort of person group to lump me in. I have the hardest time doing this with shoes, because the minute you put on a pair of shoes, your whole outfit just took on a form. I mostly wear a pair of 1461 Doc Martens, but I've been going to the gym a few times a week lately and I'm not keen on carrying around an extra pair of shoes all day just for my 45 minutes at the gym.

All that to say, any recommendations for athletic type shoes that don't commit me to look too sports-enthusiast or anything like that? Nothing against sports, I'm just not into that standard aesthetic.

I think the athleisure trend is so prevalent now that it's even harder to find more classic sneakers. Brands like Keds have already eliminated many of their simpler models. I suppose there are still many options, but it seems the market has shifted strongly in the direction of ridiculous, clunky and colorful hypebeast shoes.
