What's cool in Anaheim?

Post by Blood_mountain »

Hi Friends,
I'm going to be in Anaheim in March for a few days for work, and wonder what kind of awesome music stores, record store, live music venues, etc. are around there?

What's cool in Anaheim?

The freeway to L.A. if it isn't rush hour?

Maybe there's something in Anaheim that isn't white and dull, but I've never found it when I've visited.

if you're going into LA proper, visit True Tone Music in Long Beach for an excellent independent guitar store.

True Tone is Santa Monica. Caveman is in downtown LA.

Night drivin' is quick here, so look for shows in LA (echo/echoplex, Spaceland, das bunker, whatever you're into...some of the clubs rotate venues).

Pike Pub in Long Beach is owned by somebody from Social Distortion if that's your thing.

Dave and Buster's if with corporate.

Radiation/Puke&Vomit Records is in Fullerton, which is just the other side of the freeway from Anaheim.

Beach and Ball area and check out Adventure Land. Then go to Knott's and meet Snoopy.

Uhhh, Cafe Lu or similar coffee bars. You can be like Matsui!

The Beach.

Stand in front of 7-11 and talk to the punk kids spanging. Follow them to punk rock house party.

Look for weird houses that were inspired to decorate like disneyland. Some have suits of armor and crap in front.

Dig through the post NAMM dumpsters for prototypes!

sorry, my mistake. i've only been to the LA metroplex once, and it all kind of gets blurred together in my memory.

Sylmar to San Clemente used to be one giant blob of "LA" to me before I moved here. No worries, man. It's a freaking giant place with like 4 counties of continuous sprawl.

My Scottish friend was like, "How far is San Bernardino?"
I told him.
"That's Glasgow to Edinburgh!"

True Tone is alright though. It's a nice shop with a good collection. They can just be selective who they talk to (it's an LA thing. You can go in waving cash and they'll still help somebody else for some reason).

Long Beach is cool. Alex's Bar has some good shows there and it really isn't all that far from Anaheim. The next town over is San Pedro with the sinking city. Then just a hop over into the coastal cliffs is Rancho Palos Verdes with Portuguese Point and the tide pools which is kinda cool.

Some of the beaches down San Clemente/Laguna Niguel way are pretty too. They've got the cliffs and rocks and stuff.

Radiation is a pretty cool shop though. Tons of zine back issues and good punk/indie. I just don't like that a big part of their business are bootlegs.

If you've never been to Olvera Street, that's always kind of a fun tourist thing. Of course, the Getty, Getty Villa, Petersen, LACMA are pretty neat too.

The LA clubs put on nice shows though. It's just hard to keep track where they are and what's going on. They are kind of bad at mentioning anything.
