If we're going for Hermann Hesse inspired musical works, I'll take this one:

the more i think about it--and i don't mean it negatively--the more i think that it comes down to novelty. as i said above i couldn't possibly afford modular, but synths appeal to me in part because they aren't guitars...i've been playing guitar since 1970, and (not to seem arrogant) it's not that hard to find solutions to my musical questions on guitar. synths would require a whole new learning curve, and would be relatively fresh by comparison.

Yeah, definitely! It's just something new to try out that will likely get you thinking in a different way. Of course modular or even synthesizers in general are just a couple of the shitloads of ways you can do that. If staying within the world of guitar, I can't even really quantify how much changing just one simple variable—trying an alternate tuning, for example—can make me write entirely different stuff.

Whenever I think "yeah, I got this" when it comes to guitar, I can watch this and be reminded of the fact that nope, no I don't.

if we're going with Hesse-inspired works, imma go with anything by Steppenwolf. ideally "Monster."
