When I saw him speak back in the 1990s, that was one of the greatest experience of my life at that point.

Sad day.

Even if you're not into comics, Stan Lee used them as a means to show solidarity to many people and their struggles (X-Men is a less-than-subtle argument for civil rights, Spiderman is meant to help bullied kids get through adolescence and school, Iron Man showed the importance of empathy and how fucked things can get when you don't, and I can go on and on and on). He didn't just make entertainment or media, he made inspiration and hope for many people who needed it.

We lost one of the great ones. RIP.

I’m not sure if I can think of another person who impacted our childhoods as much as Stan. Shit, even now with all the films. Absolute fucking legend.

So grateful for all his work.

My first exposure to notions of ethics and fairness came through the Spider Man origin story book on tape that I listened to ENDLESSLY as a kid, before I could even read. Yeah, it was probably messed up to let a 5-year old relive the fictional death of a relative over and over, but the concept "with great power comes great responsibility" was imprinted on my brain better than any educational institution could have managed.

Damnit. A sad day indeed.
