chiming in to say the antenna helps the reception about 100000000x so i recommend if you wanna do radio sampling.
But I too am in love with the OP-1. I'm just now getting better at freehand beatmaking, and made my first freehand no-metronome loop that lines up well yesterday. Looking forward to doing more stuff like that, and using it for lo-fi hiphop type stuff.

solo tunes:
completed works || loosey goosey releases
associated acts:
Raab Zamboni (fake jazz/real noise//sax, modular synth, editing, misc) || Field Guide (my best friends//sax on 2 tracks)
I make t-shirts, patches, koozies, buttons, CDs, sometimes tapes, and eventually i'll start working on pedals again. DM me for pricing!

sooooo still super digging it, learning what it excels at and where it's limitations are.
but.... am i right that the only way you can put samples into a playable kit is through computer interface? like, i can't sample a small noise from the mic onto the BD key, edit it, then splork verbally into the mic onto the SD key? one can only sample into a Synth Sampler patch and use one sample tuned across the keys?

Re: OHhh Pehhh UNO TEENAGE ENGINEERING OP-1
u cannnnnnn its a lil different w/ drum sampler. than synth sampler.
basically when u sample with drum it takes your whole sample and splits it up into 16 even pieces and then again 8 even pieces over the 24 keys.
u can lift and drop samples to different keys within one drum sampler "kit".
i use "kit" here to describe the 12 sec max drum sample.
u can also use tape to create your 12 second max sample of all your different hits. line them up together. lift and drop the whole thing from tape into drum sampler...viola!
hope this helps

lift + drop is really handy. i experiment pressing these two often. they do a lot more than advertised.

it's Britney bitch.
man. i WANTED to love that thing. it was totally my fault, i had some pretty severe misunderstandings about it's design and work flow and limitations.
have a Deluge now. EXACTLY the sample/sequencer box i want.
OP-1 is still sexy as butts.

Re: OHhh Pehhh UNO TEENAGE ENGINEERING OP-1
I’ve played with the op1 for about 2-3 hours and feel like i haven’t scratched the surface. It’s definitely a keeper for me. I wanted something where I can sit on the couch and duck with it; I don’t want a computer or any other devices hooked up.
It’s definitely going to require the long game though. I knew that would be the case, but was secretly hoping I’d know and understand everything from watching a few YouTube videos.

Re: OHhh Pehhh UNO TEENAGE ENGINEERING OP-1
OP-1 is such a fun instrument. My bandmates and I all have one because it can be so powerful for live performances. Three OP-1s might be excessive but it opens up a lot of possibilities without taking up a ton of space or anything.
The only thing I wish it had was a more standard drum step sequencer, as I find the pattern sequencer more difficult and limited than I would like. It would be nice to be able to add steps in real time and have a faster way to program a beat. But like many things on the OP-1, you find a workaround.

I love the finger sequencer, it's probably the most fun one on the OP-1. A friend and I basically made an instant techno set just using that.
