I have a hard time believing they actually wanted their drums to sound like cardboard, but here we are.

Metal Circus was the best thing they ever did. Didn't like Zen Arcade that much. The lyrics to Real World describe me politically to a t.

I don't know what group you guys are discussing, and from the sound of things I wouldn't like them

I was exactly the right age (and was coming from a different musical direction) that I actually got into Sugar first as those albums were coming out. Going back to the Dü albums after that was like switching over from tapes to wax cylinders.
I think Sugar was Bob Mould's reaction to the poppiness of later Hüsker Dü. Pretty sure Sugar were the loudest band I've ever seen/heard.

Sugar fucking rules. Copper Blue is the best album Bob Mould ever made.

Shoe string fries are the worst kind of fry. It's like a big scoop of fryer scraps. Gross.

You haven't heard Zen Arcade? It's definitely worth a listen, but Husker Du are good in spite of their production, not because of it.

I do think lofi recordings can sound good.

Think QOTSA meets Cheap Trick but with 90s black metal production.

The trashy guitar tone on “Girl Who Lives on Heaven Hill” is one of my favorite sounds ever.
