man, i HATED that band when they first appeared. i said to a friend "this sounds like everything i've ever heard." i used to take great pleasure in singing Stop! In The Name Of Love" to the instrumental bridge in, i think it was "Don't Look Back"?

I love the guitar sounds, but the longer I listened to the albums, I started really hating them because the drummer was just the goddamn worst. Seeing how Scholz was such a circuit wizard, he really could have been the first to just kill his drummer in a roadside ditch and then replace him with a homemade rhythm machine.

I don't know if this is controversial or not, but that sorta describes the bulk of Hüsker Dü's recorded output.

certainly the SST stuff. i adore Hüsker Dü, but i cannot listen to New Day Rising because the production is so terrible...even the Everything Falls Apart stuff sounds better.

I was exactly the right age (and was coming from a different musical direction) that I actually got into Sugar first as those albums were coming out. Going back to the Dü albums after that was like switching over from tapes to wax cylinders.
