I think you messed up a bit -- I'm only getting the noise chan, not the mel9 chan.

It's... yeah... it's a bit much, isn't it? Haha. It sounds like it would be great for either noise music, or noise parts of songs. I don't think I would start a post rock band with this sound as my basis!

But, yeah, it sure helped a lot! Now I know that it's not a great idea to do a Mel9 into dirt. :P

Still kinda want one though! But maybe save my money and buy some other stuff first.

Damn, you're right! I went back to the original recording and the Mel9 channel is empty... just blank in the file! I don't know what I did to screw that up but it looks like it's gone forever... well it sounded better while I was playing it and I could hear both channels mixed together. As you say, the Mel 9 isn't the best pedal for distortion :)

Not helping that slowburn desire to try one, curiosity extra piqued. There's def a way to finesse it by stacking into distortion. I'm thinking sandwiching [it] with either a boost or compressor up front and dirt behind could be a recipe for fuzzy with actual, usable note definition. Treat it as a synth instrument? :hobbes:

Big plans for mine, down the line. Hope it's soon :snax:

Note definition coming out of the Mel 9 isn't such an issue (like it was with the Superego which I have found must have a boost or compressor in front of it to make it work all the time) so I don't think the compressor boost idea will do much... just tried it - I get more sustain (as if this pedal needs more sustain!) with a compressor. Putting the distortion afterwards... well it gets loud and distorted but on the few pedals I quickly tried it mostly just sounds like distorted guitar with barely any Mel 9 type signal in it. That said the Dod FX50b becomes pretty heavy after the Mel9... so maybe a light overdrive is all that is needed?

Our next album is likely to have a lot of flute in it courtesy of the Mel 9... that is another addictive setting...

I definitely dig this stuff.

I too, am looking for a Mel9, I'm still working on putting together the funds for it. But this was cool definitely inspirational.
You can see with the Synth9 that EHX realized you need a compressor with these pedals (and many guitarists don't use that effect). They built one into the Synth9.

Thanks very much :) I think the Mel 9 sounds best on its own - which is no bad thing because it does have its own unique texture, and as the music my son and I make often has a lot of noisy texture in it, having something clean sounding like a flute works well as a sort of opposing style of sound... in my head I tend to think of very early Mercury Rev; when they were fiercely weird and would throw flute over feedback and noise :) If I owned and could play a real flute or a celo then I'd be recording that instead, but this pedal gives me some lovely sounds that I enjoy. It's not perfect, but it was worth the money to me.

I'm on the fence with getting one of these because I really like Mellotron sounds, and the softsynth (and of course my analog synth) can't get those kinds of sounds. It's like the only synth that Arturia doesn't model, for some reason.

Has anyone just fed a sine or triangle wave into one of these and had it at 100% wet? Does it sound pretty close?
