Re: Controversial Opinions
Word, a big ABV does not a good IPA make. Anything above a 7% is too cloying for me, personally, and I never want more a pint of that. I'm not into craft beer culture so am not qualified to say this, but IPAs seem like the transparent overdrives of beer--they're everywhere and we do not need more of them. I still like them, but how about some variety?Andrew wrote:Craft Beer culture is basically glorified Alcoholism. Your average IPA is from 6-8% abv with your trendy DIPA being +8%, your average dude is going to have a minimum of 3 in a session - yet beers under 4% have the tinniest hold in the market and the 'craft' of a good Summer Ale or Lager gets overlooked. Say what you will about Wine and Whisky collectors, atleast there's some sort of justification of value in their industry.
I love it all as much as the next guy, but that habit can easily creep up on you.
I really enjoy sub-5% beers these days and would love to see more of that. I've been buying Founder's Solid Gold Lager (4.4%) which is like if a Budweiser tasted good, and Sly Fox O'Reilly's Stout (3.6%!) which is not quite as good as a Guinness, but lighter bodied and cheaper on tap.

IPAs taste like soap and you all got tricked into drinking the beers no one could sell but now the joke is over and IPAs are selling like hot cakes.

Re: Controversial Opinions
^^^ pretty dang true
Also having a craft beer/craft pedal market sounds awful,
I am so glad I don't work music retail anymore.
Feeling this. Founders actually makes the only two IPAs I'd order at a bar, and thats if I say to myself "You know what, tonight I want a beer that tastes exactly like an alcoholic forest tree." I'm not sure if Shorts makes it out of Michigan but their Local's Light is also a great basic but good beer. I really shouldn't be bitching because I live in Michigan and am surrounded by good craft beers that include some bitchin stouts, ales, pilsners, etc. But IPAs can still overrun a bar's draft list like nobodies business despite this. Honestly, overall I just want a Blue Moon with an orange slice in it year round.friendship wrote:Word, a big ABV does not a good IPA make. Re: Controversial Opinions
I'm not a drinker anymore, but I always thought IPA was pretty shit. Indeed tastes p much like soap, but really the big problem I have is that they ALL taste the same.
Frankly I just think there are a lot more interesting and refreshing beers out there. Ones that fairly frequently make me wish I still drank:
Schneider Weisse
Saison DuPont
Old Speckled Hen
Guinness
Puro Pinche Modelo Especial

Re: Controversial Opinions
Not a drinker anymore either. I disagree with you about them all tasting the same. And rather than soap, my comparison was always a collection of various leaves and sticks that had been left to sit in a puddle. But I liked IPAs for about a decade! It's just when every fucking beer in my local cooler became some kind of an IPA and 50% 75% 90% of them were pure garbage that I started to panic.
Loved Saison Dupont. Always wished craft beer companies made more Belgian or German ales or whatever, but nope. Just more double IPAs and fruit-flavored IPAs and coffee IPAs, all with dumb fucking names and cartoons on them.

This is a very impressive collection of Roto Toms. That's 21 Roto Toms in all. That is only $33.00 a Roto Tom.

Maybe there is something to this, the popularity of IPAs is due to bad parenting practices like washing bad words out of your mouth with soap?friendship wrote:Controversial Opinion: soap is delicious

Controversial Opinion: IPAs are good tho...
I did actually teach at a university for a hot minute, is this where they assimilated me into soap beer?BetterOffShred wrote:Man where you guys when I was clowning on IPA Professors a while back? Yeah it's all maximum douche.

Re: Controversial Opinions
I mean the guys who bring up the bitterness units and shit from memory while you're drinking a different beer. It's all too much for me. I like to drink beer, and other than its classification of beer I don't give a fuck. People went way over the top on wine, talking about how they can taste leather etc..cherler wrote:Controversial Opinion: IPAs are good tho...

I home brewed for like 10 years straight and made tons of IPA beers.. but as mentioned earlier now 90% of beers I see are IPA with fruit, or coffee, or hamburger..

I like an IPA on ocassion. I know it’s terrible beer, though, and that my taste in beer’s equally terrible.
