Guitar Volume Drops

Post by huggernaut »

hey all,

recently got a new guitar (a 2010 PRS Mira, it's sweet, i'll post some pics later) and it plays great and sounds good.

HOWEVER

i'm noticing sometimes when i'm playing the volume will randomly drop to about 5-10% of usual (cranked my amp up to ear bleeding volumes and got apartment levels) and will get kind of weird papery ghosting sounds surrounding some notes.

does this sound like a grounding issue?

i've specifically only noticed it with the bridge pickup, but that's likely because i'm on the bridge 95% of the time

sometimes it will bounce back and start chugging along again, sometimes it sticks around for a while.

Any thoughts?

tried switching cables, tried direct to amp and bypassing the pedalboard, both still intermittently had volume drops/weird papery sound.

that's sort of what i'm thinking--it apparently just sat in a case for years, i took the pickguard off but nothing looked out of place (but my knowledge here is pretty limited)

They're not scratchy, and the guitar was pretty pristine, which is why this surprised me in the first place.
