I’m getting an AR 15 before they become illegal.

I thought about this then realized I don't actually like the AR-15.Jesus Was a Robot wrote:I’m getting an AR 15 before they become illegal.
But that bill that democrats put up included the Mini-14 and Mini-30 so I might get one of those.

Pretty much if it's mag fed and semi-auto....and you want it, there's no time like the present.
Worst case, you have a shiny rifle that makes you happy with the opportunity to get more.
If things get as the folks seem to want...well, you won't have that option.
Get parts and magazines galore as well.

Ive been wanting to learn to shoot for awhile. Any recommendations for a good rifle for a beginner? I've been looking at ruger 10/22s for a cheap and simple place to start.

10/22 was my first rifle. Lots of customization options. Ammo is relatively cheap. Probably as good a place as any to start.

They're cheap and they work. I'm not fond of 22 caliber stuff generally (especially with ammo prices being what they are), but they're one of the better starter options without spending an arm and a leg.
And depending on the part of the country you're in, every used car sold seems to come with a 10/22 magazine in it somewhere.

I dig my 12 gauge. Never been a big fan of the assault rifles stuff, but it does seem like they will inevitably be going away sooner or later. I have mixed feelings there.

Beat me to it. The AR doesn't stand for "Assault Rifle," it stands for Armalite, the company that first created that design with the AR-10 (which uses .308 rounds and not 5.56). All my military friends only consider full-auto to be an assault rifle.jrfox92 wrote:BetterOffShred wrote:I dig my 12 gauge. Re: gun things and the things they do
^it was the standard definition until it was latched onto as a scary way to gin up sentiment about the most common of modern weapon design systems that's been around for over a hundred years in private hands.
Those "assault rifles" do less damage than 12g shotguns (note that the Columbine totals ...don't give the kills en masse to the evil assault thing but to the lowly $75 12g pump). It's all about banning it all.

It peels geese out of the sky way better than an AR-15 too

Different things for different tasks!
I have no desire to hunt (even when I was physically able) after learning how out of principle, but I respect and will fight to protect your right to blast said geese!

Re: gun things and the things they do
Yea I heard they are discussing redefining assault rifle to basically be any semi auto, especially anything with "high" capacity magazines (over 10 rounds to them)...which is horseshit
I could be remembering this wrong, but didn't we get the term assault rifle from the Sturmgewehr? (literally meaning storm rifle, because of the rate firing it could achieve)
(and to you other gun dudes, please don't think that is me saying the STG44 is the first machine gun
