I have always lusted for a vintage mustang but I'm fucking poor (gee, man with all the shit you sell how can you be poor? pedals man pedals). I want to know how does the neck radius feels compare to a modern day mustang.
I know the vintage musicmaster has the same neck. The point being said is that there's a vintage musicmaster in my area (about 30-50 miles) for cheap that has a extra bridge pickup that I might want to pick up but should just want to know the radius feel.
I had a CIJ mustang that I sold but I was young back then and didn't understand pickup heights and stuff that I wouldn't had sold it.

Re: QUESTION: vintage Mustang/Musicmaster neck
The '66 Mustang I had felt totally different from anything I've picked up in a store since. If you're just asking about radius, it was rounder across the fretboard. It was thinner all around. I loved it. Newer ones I've tried have felt more clunky.

Re: QUESTION: vintage Mustang/Musicmaster neck
What model was your CIJ? Some of them have those 70s teeny baby ankle necks at the nut and some are pretty chunky. I think most are narrow, like 41mm at the nut.
My '66 is chunky + narrow. Love it. Needs new frets tho!

Re: QUESTION: vintage Mustang/Musicmaster neck
Depends on which width it is. A necks are narrow as can be and not cowboy-chord friendly for most hands. The B neck is the chunky one as y’all are phrasing it. The mij/cij stuff seems to be modeled after the B. Both my jagstang and ‘69 reissue had the same neck as my 1969 competition mustang.
Some necks have a brightness and some are darker. Doesn’t seem consistent to year or whether they’re pre or post CBS. For the record I have a 64 and 69 stang, a 72 and 68 musicmaster. I have owned a few japanese reissues as well.

How does the musicmaster neck feel on yours? The guitar I'm looking at is 78 fender musicmaster.

Re: QUESTION: vintage Mustang/Musicmaster neck
It is a solid neck overall. They tend to be glossy but that never bugged me much. There could be finish issues but that is just CBS, hah.
Otherwise I have always wondered how close a vintage set of pickups in a japanese guitar would get. If it’s cheap enough they’re hard to say no to though. My only concern would be how well the pickup routing was done.
