I have this LTD Baritone that I love but a big issue is the controls layout. In the pics I've already kind of rearranged the controls - the pickup selector used to be in the bottom right hole.
I think I want to make a 2 Vol/2 Tone layout. I'll also have to deal with the pickup selector in that area. I'd love to try and put it in the upper horn like a Les Paul layout but I don't think that is possible in terms of layout. What I want to do is make a play/cover for the old holes. I was hoping I could make it look cool looking. I'm not sure what material I could use. Note that the body isn't flat like a Tele. The material - metal of some sort, likely - will need to be flexible so I can bend it to fit the contour of the body.
The little toggle is for coil splitting of the neck pickup. In the new layout I'll go with push/pull pots. Any ideas? Thanks.
It's tough for me to give you a great answer since something flexible enough to contour but strong enough to not tear is a weird line... You'll also have to do some work to keep the edges from slicing you (or maybe clear it, fugly AF)...
I would get one of the "sets" on there. Copper or brass might be your best bet. They will both end up with a nice patina and aren't as strong as the steels. Some of that shim stock will be waaayyy too thin for what you what, but .025" or .031" might be too thick... Those sets aren't too pricey and then you've always got some left over. If you get the copper, you can even shield the cavities (hehehehehehehehe) with the super thin stuff.
