I don't think they could have been charged since he was 19. I guess parents are technically liable for any and all actions of their children when they are minors. Probably just to keep parents from coercing their kids to break the law for them or to hold someone financially responsible in case of damages.

the creepy feeling, when you receive an email from your kids school talking about umping security because of this...reminds me of the day 911 went down, they canceled the after school game and had us later in the week practice hiding from terrorist's.. literally flipping over tables turning off lights and locking doors as a drill.. they seriously thought helicopters with pakol wearing ak bearing alqaeda troops where gonna be dropping from the heavens. anyways this sucks. kid that did the Florida shooting.....

Nikolas Cruz, who has been charged with 17 counts of premeditated murder, reportedly left a comment on a YouTube video last year stating: "I'm going to be a professional school shooter."

A user alerted authorities to the post.
Teachers were also warned about Mr Cruz, who was not allowed on campus with a backpack, US media report.
The FBI said it had investigated the YouTube comment but had been unable to fully identify the person who posted it.

Because, how does a 19-year-old get an AR-15 with multiple magazine and ammo, legally, without bringing up a lot of red flags?
If he stole the rifle from his parents, I was curious how liable they'd be for this knowing his history.
If he bought it, how? Also, considering his history, if he bought it legally why wouldn't the FBI or ATF investigate?

Based on what I'm reading, the FBI did investigate this dude, or at least they tried to. The FBI can't do very much beyond investigation people, though, because of the second amendment.

Yeah it's a long gun, and Florida has pretty lax gun laws as it is, so you can go buy one as long as you don't have a record. What a piece of shit.

FBI really can't do anything unless they have ties to specific organisations or have a record or manage to get the person to detail their plan before it goes down. "Being unhinged" isn't enough of a reason...
