He should have links to the PDF manuals on his site instead of having to contact him for 'em.

He could also label the controls of his pedals and upload better demos. I would start there, if you're going to make a to-do list for him.Chankgeez wrote:He should have links to the PDF manuals on his site instead of having to contact him for 'em.

We can give him our list when we contact him for manuals

he explained in his FAQ that the controls are color-coded. So, it's an aesthetic and/or workflow thing?echorec wrote:He could also label the controls of his pedals and upload better demos. As for "better" demos, he may be leaving that to Knobs.

Agreed. I do like labeled controls that make sense. It would also be nice if the videos showed the pedals with settings, it is a bit seppuku-esque in that sense.echorec wrote:He could also label the controls of his pedals and upload better demos. Re: Frayed Knot Electronics
Right...because that completely assuages my concerns about these pedals. If he'd label the controls, the manual would be moot. According to him, though, it's all about being a free artist who isn't hampered by practicality.Chankgeez wrote:he explained in his FAQ that the controls are color-coded. Up to Knobs? The guy can't even be bothered to take an in-focus photo of his unlabelled pedals. You think he's going to shell out $450+ on a professionally-produced promotional video?
The whole presentation is so haphazard and lazy to me, which is why I didn't order one of these last year. Like Goroth mentioned, I saw them and was mildly intrigued, but I just can't get excited about a guy who doesn't even present himself to be fully computer literate. If he's a legitimate DSP wiz, then why can't he embed YouTube links? How painstaking is it really to take an in-focus photo of your $260 pedals? If he can't find 10 seconds to do things like that, then I don't have $260 to give him.
In my experience, sloppy presentation = sloppy work. Maybe he's the exception, but I'm quite skeptical that these pedals live up to their asking prices. Also, the jack layout is terribly impractical and needlessly cumbersome as well.

That way you can have a board of these and new Devis for maximum

Pretty sure he's quasi-local to me - I know I've seen those in my local shop, and the manager spoke highly of their craziness (he's a total pedalhead too). I haven't tried them out yet, for fear that I will want to buy them once I have...

Yeah, this's from the "about" section of his website:jrmy wrote:Pretty sure he's quasi-local to me - I know I've seen those in my local shop, and the manager spoke highly of their craziness (he's a total pedalhead too). He now seems to be in Weymouth, MA!

*Psst.* The market is crowded. I'm not going to put that disclaimer/reminder out with every single new release, though, I do contrast/compare new releases with pre-existing designs quite often.Chankgeez wrote:All I can say, you already seem to have it out for him.![]()

I'm all for new builders entering the market, but the approach with this line just seems really phony to me.
On one hand, he's trying to be anti-establishment (no labels, impractical layouts, shitty site, lo-fi demos), but at the same time he's asking for an absolute ransom, despite showing no interest in backing up that dollar amount. You don't get to be Bohemian and corporate at the same time. If you're going to ask top-dollar prices, then you've got to back that up with some level of professionalism and self-pride. When I see a site that's hard to read, not particularly easy to navigate, and features out-of-focus photography, then where is my confidence supposed to come from as a potential buyer? Why should I frame him in a positive manner, when he isn't interested in showing he's willing to put in the work to earn people's trust? I have a low tolerance for sloppiness, when it's bundled with high prices, and I'm not going to apologize for that.

Echorec pretty much summarized it for me. Well, we all have our special prejudices.
I'm gonna reserve judgement until we have a little more experience with this brand.

Conspiracy theory alert: UC = FK
(When did you move to Weymouth?)
This's part of the Trump administration's plan to encourage Norwegian immigration, isn't it?
They were like "who can we get to build Seppuku-like pedals?"

Thanks UC, I appreciate your point of view and your input. I follow you. I can see some aspects of the object and the market "strategy" that could be frustrating to the end user, but I still see some things I might be interested in interfacing with. I expect I'll proceed much like I did with Seppuku, bottom feeder that I am, with the slight benefit of my own lessons learned. I also expect I'll ask to see a manual or two....UglyCasanova wrote:Dandolin wrote:ruh-roh...gotta say I hope not, but I trust your vibes-detector....
