it's a very gamelan type concept. In gamelan, or at least in some parts with certain instruments, a single melody line, for example, may be played by multiple people in succession, each playing a piece of it. For example, say there was a 6 note melody line for a particular instrument. It might be played by 2 people like this:

person 1 plays notes 1,3,5
person 2 plays notes 2,4,6

I would like to try to incorporate this concept into my own work somehow but obviously playing alone complicates things.

They do It purely for speed and efficiency sake I think, but i might benefit from this concept via weird sloppy timing results.

I came across this which I thought some of you (all 2 or 3 of you who read this thread) might like.

It reminds me of the album below, which I bought like 20 years ago when I discovered it at the record store I was working at. This is truly an ambient piece - something you don't want to actively listen to. Just put it on low in the background and let it take you away. There was a bunch of science stuff in the liner notes about what it is doing to your brain, but I can't remember all of that. But this album has truly given me hallucinations and very vivid dreams. Sometimes really scary dreams (like children crawling up the side of my house with knives in their mouths and coming in my bedroom window to kill me).

Not really relevant to this thread (stylistically) because it is just an ocean recording from the same "Environments" series, but I thought I would put it here anyway. This is what I usually sleep to when my girlfriend is over (I don't want to annoy her with some of my weirder selections).

An app was just released this month for IOS which has all 22 of these environments from that series for $2.99. I would say that is a steal. I don't have IOS or else I would buy it.
