Here's a rule -> If you read about and have substantial proof of any of the animals "being able" to do something...it applies. So Koko, the gorilla knew sign language. You can use that but, the same logic has to be cohesive to the whole of the situation (i.e. Koko was NOT a Silverback but a Western Lowland ergo has a completely different profile). Be prepared to cite your sources in the dossier.

EDIT: This rule only applies for the animals you choose to fight with you. The previous rule of the meanest and biggest is still the case for the animals trying to kill you.

I could think of probably 5 version of this right off the top of my head.

Fantasy/Magic based Tabletop RPG. Each animal group has stats and abilities that make them weak or strong at defense and offense against different opponents.

Starcraft style PC strategy game. Similar to the Tabletop in mechanics, but you have to farm/mine resources to replenish ranks and you can upgrade to different classes, which unlock different abilities and technology.

Defend the tower style wave attack game, where you have to choose different groups for each level, based on defending different terrain and against different enemies. You unlock different available groups as you progress through levels. You have to place animals in strategic locations along the path to your location/stronghold, allocation is everything.

YA dystopian fantasy novel. You were raised in a wasteland outpost based in an abandoned zoo, where you developed a special bond with the animals, as all the animals outside the compound have become feral and attack to devour your resources and destroy your community. But perhaps all is not as it seems, as at the end of the first novel you discover that the defeated feral animals are really robots/used to be human/have magical talismans around their necks that indicate they're being controlled by an outside force. Now you have to venture outside the world you know to defeat a great and unknown evil.

Classical fantasy, the polar bears represent Lutherans and the Wolves are Catholics or something. There are several uncomfortable racial allegories that do not age well.

But if we are assuming that we can motivate animals to fight with us some level of communication is implied correct?
The same would be true for animals trying to kill us, something is compelling them to unite and try to kill us.

I'm inclined to agree. I just tried to outline a basic command logic of communication but, it winds up that you do need to communicate and strategize orders.

I think the initial rule applies, the sign language was a bad example though. So, IF you read about Gorillas building Nuclear Warheads and have substantial proof, feel free to use it (there is no such proof so please don't try to use this).

Holy shit, I look away for 5 minutes and this thread explodes....

I had some clarification question about hivemind vs communication, but I really can't think of a good way to ask now.

LARPing this is just a countdown to the entire fandom being taken over my furries.

Here's the big variables we need clarified:

What's the level of communication/organization internally within each group? Is this a "turn on the simulation and see how it shakes out" scenario or are the groups capable of strategy and coordination? Are we able to deploy specific individuals/groups to specific tasks/locations?

What's the terrain? Are we on an open field, with the two teams coming from each end and meeting in the middle? Are we in the center and being swarmed from all sides? Are we defending a structure? Is there one or several predetermined paths the oncoming attackers have to take to reach us, with multiple potential defense points?

Do we personally fight in this battle or do we just wait to see how wins and find out if we live or are torn apart/devoured? If we're fighting, do we get weapons? What sort?

I saw this documentary about apes using sign language and machine guns, so I think that's on the table.

Your options are:
-50 Hawks
-15 Wolves
-1 Hunter
-7 Cape Buffalo
-10,000 Rats
-5 Gorillas
-4 Lions

You pick 2 to defend you while the rest are coming to kill you. Who do you pick and why? I know my choices but I wanna wait and see what you guys think
shit, this is hard, but i go for full power.

Lions, Gorillas and.. me. Do i get a knife or a stick or something?
Why did I know you'd pick yourself

I'm on Rat+ hunter. Rats will be gross to plow through while hunter snipes them (plus I guess I can use his weapon if he dies)

ILF threads move pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss the new stereo modulating multi-tap cv controlled digital delay preorder or thread about strategically choosing the best teams for a simulated animal combat thought experiment.

Shit, I just realized... "Hunter" has been capitalized by the chief Hombre... Does this mean my Hunter can be a Winchester? Because I'll totally take a Winchester against anything.

Winchester brothers win 100% of the time and always come back from the dead. Plus, they come with a multitude of weapons that can kill anything. Plus, Dean would definitely make friends with like half those animals and end up naming a lion Lemmy or something.
