For a microphone you will likely need something like Ears/Mikrophonie/Doepfer A-119/etc. as the level is quite low to begin with so it will require quite a bit of amplification to reach modular level.

I'm pretty sure the Morphagene can handle at least line level signals amplification just by itself though (it has a sort of smart automatic input level adjustment thing going on) but if you want to process sounds before going into the Morphagene then yeah, get something like Ears. It's probably the best price/features/ratio you can get. An envelope follower is a good thing to have anyway if you want to process external sounds.

Also look into a RML Guitar Pedal Interface (GPI). Not only does it do level adjustment to bring a mic/line in up to modular level, but it'll also drop modular down to pedal level, which might be useful for you, and pretty much anyone else who finds themselves discussing modular on this here guitar pedal forum, assuming you haven't sold all your pedals to fund your synth habits.
But yeah, the Morhpagene itself has input level adjustment. I normally boost my input signals beforehand out of habit, so I can't speak with authority on the Signal/Noise ratio when it brings up low peak-to-peak signals.

Also wanna chime in on the Tempi love. That thing is amazing & very fun/intuitive. The only thing I need to mess with more on it is presets and mutate. I also haven't played with direction of mod/clock shift, but using it in the factory standard clockwise method has always worked just fine for me. I imagine swapping that would be a good way to break some monotony 20 minutes into a patch though. I *hardly* find myself tapping tempos other than the leading tempo, but it's super cool how easy it is to do beat phasing.

I'm still a huge fan of the Xaoc Sewastopol for an in/out module with a bunch of other useful features. Ears is also great for getting external sounds into your modular. I use mine with a contact mic a lot of the time.

ALM SBG. 4HP and does it all. Dry/Wet mix, does modular -> line and back and also lets you hook up a waveform to a 3V or 5V output for your pedals.

Well I've used the sewastopol with the phonogene loads and I'm just upgrading to a morph haha.

Sewastopol pre-amp has worked well for all levels I've tried feeding into any modules including the gene (which isn't bad at low level signals itself actually but it's nice to have more gain available), good output too, and the trig/gate/env functionality works really well for all sorts.

I think the Roland FX are the best IO, because you can boost or cut with compressors, EQs, clean or dirty overdrive etc, and vca the output, mix up to eight audio or cv signals, buffered multing, blah blah blah.
Most of my dirt pedals are loud enough to go straight in with no boosting. All of my rack dirts will take puny signals and Hulk the shit out of them. Trshmstr is probably the best of the bunch for that task, as there is a sweet spot between a loud enough clean boost and edge of breakup toobskreem'n.

Mutable (or anyone) would have to go hard on the eye candy to replace an e352. He's raised the bar before, with Braids and Frames/Warps, but oscilloscopes and other screens of dopeness are the new bling thing now. I'm still waiting for somebody to start making regular sized O+C with a bigger screen.

All good looks aside though, the e352 just sounds incredible. I haven't learned all of what's going on in each mode yet, or started making my own wavetables (definitely gonna copy the geiger counter wavetable), but all I have to do is feed it a bunch of cv and mess around and I get amazing nebula storms of dream-come-true sound. Keeping the glitch set to high for now. This is why his kickstarters get pledged up so fast.
If left sealed, it could probably be auctioned off for $600-800 (maybe more? reasonable guess), but after all the fees it might not be worth it, especially if it's a black one. Anyone still on the fence should just go ahead and place the order, man. The wait is hell but unanimously worth it. If you want your rack to be reborn you must walk through the flames. Unless you're baremountain.

Anyone got any thoughts on this? Just saw that it went up for pre order. I know 16 bands is more than the 6 that the 4MS SMR offers, but is it really THAT necessary? And at $1k???

I feel like I need a giant system before I even consider that. I'd rather stick with the smr tbh. I'm super excited to hear videos of it though.
