^ Indeed, even though approximately only 5% of my blood is Portuguese. :( Completely outplayed by Ivory Coast imo, they were just lucky all the opponents seemed to have timely leg cramps.

I know it's still early, but what are some of the predictions from you guys as to who will end up in the final?
I'm leaning towards Holland vs. Germany.

I hear ya on that one. It's too bad you can't hook up a noise suppressor pedal to your tv and dial it in to block out those obnoxious frequencies. I really hope those things don't spread all over the world like a horrible cancer. There seems to be enough of a controversy with them that hopefully they won't. I can see them being huge here in the US now. They seem to be just the obnoxious thing us Yankee's get into. Let's leave them at the 2010 World Cup.

im going for argentina v germany for the final. im not really seeing brazil or spain getting there to be honest. england will get knocked out relatively soon and i'll probably just support argentina because of how much a legend maradona is .

i really don't mind the vuvuzelas to be honest. after a while you just kind of block out the noise. apparently south africa are trying convince people to export the wonderful instrument, so i think there's a chance we might see them in the premier league haha

I could back up your two picks. Germany and Argentina seem to be the only 2 teams that have had solid performances so far. My top 3 teams I support by default are: the US (one of the few things I have national pride for), England (I love the English Premier League, and most other things English, plus UK heritage on my dad's side), and Germany (I'm uber German on my mom's side, love the Bundisliga, and enjoy the disciplined style of the Germans). Out of my 3, I only see Germany doing something great in this tournament. I agree with you that England will probably get knocked out early, unless they have a major resurrection. I picked Holland over Argentina, because they're just something about those Flying Dutchmen. I don't know what it is, but deep down I kinda want them to win it all.

I also agree that you do end up blocking out the drone, but I feel like I miss out on a lot of the crowd dynamics. The singing, the cheering, is gone. It's just a constant noise. It does seem to be getting a little better lately.

holland just play great, attacking football that's always really fun to watch. germany always get the job done in the most clinical, professional way possible, which i find kinda admirable. they really do fit the national stereotype of having a philosophy of precision engineering even on the picth

yeah i do miss the chants and the singing, there are some really great chants in the premier league. even though i don't support liverpool, this is one of my favourites

i've got to admit i definitely felt proud when in the england v us game you could hear the england fans sing even over the vuvuzelas, didn't give us the boost needed to win though...

My goodness!!!
Mexico just beat France 2-0!!!

This just might be the World Cup for the underdogs. Can't wait to see N.Korea play again. They did great against Brazil.

VIVAA MEXICO!!!

I haven't seen the game but apparently France didn't do too well.

Argentina vs. Germany might be right. At least those were the only two teams that won relatively clear. If that is the final, then it will definitely be interesting. I do object against the cliché of german Ergebnisfußball (football for the result). It has been like that for years and years. But judging from the last game I say they discovered talent, speed and beauty of the game again. By injecting new blood into the team. Like Özil is 22 and Müller's 21! No wonder these guys are playful. And if you see slo-mos of Özil handling the ball he seems at least portuguese if not brazilian. that guy is an artist with the ball. Alright, Podolski and Schweinsteiger remain in the good old tradition of german tank/footballers. I wonder how beautiful the playing would have been if the trainer hadn't taken Klose instead of Kuranyi. (Can you believe it? The best german scorer and he doesn't get invited because of an old fight with the trainer!)
But anyways, watch one of the games, which will hopefully continue to be just as excellent and then tell me that you have seen a cliché german engineered team.

As a (ostensibly) straight male, I would actually prefer this:

:idk:

Also, has anyone contact mic'd a vuvuzela and put it through pedals yet?

holy fuck, are you kidding me ref, you just discounted our goal because we were offsides AT THE GOAL OFF OF A FREE KICK? the only penalty i saw was the other guy holding one of our players back.

worst call of the cup so far. :picard:

Worst ref'ing ever! That should have remained a goal. If you're going to call anything, call Bradley being held in the box. That should have been a win! Plus carding Findley in the first half for a handball that didn't happen. Now he can't play the next match. He was whipping out cards for anything. "Hey you were running too fast there... BAM! Yellow card! You can't tie your shoes while the ball is in play! Yellow card!!!"

I hope they torch the ref's car. Seriously, that guy deserves NOTHING.
