I did,

it's mostly weird. But there is something about the book that makes it enjoyable. I read it quite fast and I liked it. It's a little like drugs between book covers. It was my first novel by Philipp K Dick and I loved it. I think you should have a great interest in religion and mysticism to really enjoy the book. It draws a lot of thoughts from christian mysticism and the book will probably be hard to enjoy if such thoughts are completely alien to you. This doesn't mean that you have to be christian or believe in god, just that you have to sympathize with these trains of thought. Otherwise I'd recommend Ubik which is another awesome book by the author and has a similar quality of subverting reality.

Once I find a copy I will definitely be reading it, I should be able to handle said mysticism.

i'm sure plenty of people around here have read it, but i'm reading 'our band could be your life' by michael azerrad because the last time i read it was like 5 years ago. it's really good, particularly the chapters on black flag, minor threat and the minutemen. oh and azerrad's other book is by far the best biography of nirvana and kurt

Great book. Finnegan's Wake is a little too much for me though.

yeah i kind of want to read the nirvana book that he wrote.

one thing about that book, & really other books like that, is that it lead me to want to read other more comprehensive books about the bands covered.

If you've ever tried to read the silmarillion, lotr is more stimulating than lightning. That said, the last two were pretty good, but the first one really drags.

I did read the Silmarillion. Which was... well, whatever but I liked the creation of the world part. It gets boring as soon as evil gets into the picture and everything is summarized in G vs E.

I say American Gods (or anything else) by Neil Gaiman for Fantasy lovers.

I'm in the middle of reading The Archaic Revival. I love the theory of asteroid mushrooms.
