IM I think in the general sense about internet communications your post is spot on however as dos is saying nobody is necessarily attacking anyone's character in general, rather going after a particular point they disagreed with. Maybe could have been done more diplomatically but I'm not sure I believe this represents part of a larger pattern of behavior on this forum specifically

I definitely see this as a pattern here and elsewhere. But it looks like negotiations have broken down either way, as echorec hasn't taken well to prodding and antagonism. So there goes civil discourse about real shit...all I meant is that maybe we should grade the force of our rhetoric a bit so that we're not using the same strategies to bullshit about spin chips as we are to talk about rape.

Nah I got what you were after. No arguing here. I really think that people are losing their shit in real life, and it manifests in bizarre choices all over the place (ILF included). There's less good-natured ribbing and more AAARgh PRoVE to ME wheRE MY LOGIC was OFF as a general tenor. This place is only interesting because it's a community, and sometimes that has its drawbacks, I guess.

NYC looks like it's going to be the first place to bring Weinstein to court. Building a rape case. So many actors have come forward as victims of harassment. This is disgusting. Obviously I don't think there is ever a 'good' reason for this but I'm especially bothered that in the case of the harassment charges, the currency for power was 'movies'.

I wonder what is next for the victims? So many lives ruined. I know a lot of the actors have been living with significant trauma for years but still, now it's in the public eye and that's never a great place to be.

Deescalation is a lost art. Also mediation...charitable presumption...and effective communication.
Intent matters...as well as actions. Remember why you are doing what you do. Are you seeking resolution or agitation?
All too often what can be explained by misunderstanding or misspeaking is immediately attributed to malice.
Perhaps the solution is spending more time focusing on the dissection of ideas for what they are, their benefits and consequences than the superficial characteristics of the individual messenger. I see much effort spent attempting to reduce [point-maker] to an identifier which fails an impossible purity test...because of bad feels about the idea (or its delivery).
