That's funny.... I haaaaaaaate wound Gs. I also hate flats on guitars (love them on bass), but this thread is making me want to give em a closer look. Hearing them through some heavier gain sounds like something to try; to be honest, I've usually been so turned off that I've put the guitar down before getting that far.

Def curious now.

I tried them on guitar, nopenopenope.

I like noisy, upper harmonic hell.

Bass I love the feel if the strings are right, and stainless flats work enough that when I have only one bass, that's what it eats.

The G string is some Sophie's Choice shit, either you have excellent bendability with a plain G but wonky intonation, or you have solid intonation and fuller sound but it's much tougher to widdly wow with it. And in either scenario it won't stay in tune because the G string is the genetic abomination on a 6-headed hydra.

Plek and the zero fret on the LP High Performance killed any G string problems on mine, it's just another string now!

I've had D'addario jazz lights on my LP for a bit over a month now and I'm loving them. There's a lot more clarity (for lack of a better word) to my dirt without so much of that trebley harmonic shit and string noise going on. My chords sound thick and huge, I guess the wound G is also to thank for that. I mostly play chords and don't do a lot of crazy bendy stuff so I'm not running into some of the other issues folks seem to be having in that regard. They're really just working out great for what I'm doing at the moment. Now that I'm tuning down to C standard I might check out some thicker gauges the next time I pick up strings. Fuck yeah flats.

Been curious about flatwounds forever, silly that I've never tried any in the last two decades that I've playing

I've got this cheap ES335 copy that I'm not really bonding with, using it as my noise/sludge/fuzz guitar. It's usually in G standard. It's my only humbucker guitar, so it's still fun to keep it around. Swapping pups to try to give it some more mojo costs A LOT more than first experimenting with string gauges, tunings...And flatwounds :excellent:

Putting flatwounds on a semi-hollow body won't make everything sound too mellow/jazzy and kill the bite/treble/gnarl, will it? Loads of fuzz, loud clean amp, tuned down...Sounds like a plan? :idk:

I bought a pack of Daddario 7 string flatwound strings, ditched the high E and put them on my Baritone. Cost 16 bucks instead of 65 bucks for a set of flats marketed for Baritones. B string ain't even floppy.
