Really not comfortable being so specific, but I appreciate how open other people are. It will make my stalking easier to begin.

Quick anecdote:
The other day coldbrightsunlight was talking about how excited they are to start stalking and to craft a perfect package for someone. Eager to begin the hunt, I started stalking coldbrightsunlight in lieu of knowing my actually stalkee. I went into their post history and one of the first posts I encountered was in the general spite rage, anxiety, etc. thread. I read their post (I forget what it was) and kept reading the thread and then got SO SAD.

If you can solder and don't mind biasing then I'm hella hella gassing for the Aion Electronics L5 preamp to complete my board-only rig. Otherwise I'm in dire need of modulation, something to take my board on a, ahem...quest or so to say.

Hmmm...not sure how to read this. I think you're mocking me (in good humour, assumedly) for starting those topics about the unsynced sampler and the inverted envelope-following glitch machine? I *think* I get the joke, but text is so flat and textual sarcasm so hard to interpret.

My main setup is tabletop (primarily processing drones, field recordings, and my bandmate's voice), but I do play guitar quite a bit. As you might deduce from my posts elsewhere, I am mostly interested in pedals/effects that play in the time/pitch domains. Delay, reverb, pitching things, stutter, glitch, etc., etc. Realistically I am more than set for all of those things, but I always want to hear more. I'm a big fan of pedals with multiple uses - Pitchfactor, PS-3, PS-2, Bitquest, CT-5. By playing more than one role they save space in my setup.

I own and use pedals by many current and former local ILF builders. These include Montreal Assembly, Industrialectric, Cooper FX, Fairfield, and Dr. Scientist. If someone were shopping locally, I would love to try pedals by Copilot, Iron Ether, Rainger, drolo, Eightytape, Lightning Wave, or any of the companies listed in the sentence prior to this one.

Rad non-local gifts might include older digital delay and reverb pedals. Late 80's/early 90's DigiTech and Ibanez come to mind. If someone wanted to go overboard, a Syntax Error would be a splendid gift. If someone really wanted to go overboard, another CT-5, an Echo Degrader, or something by Cooper FX would be surprising. If someone wanted to kill me and everyone else here, a Sonic Crayon Anti-Nautilus or Mechanical Sun would do it.

Non-local weirdo companies that interest me include Lastgasp, Seppuku, Bananana, Meris, Old Blood, Alexander, ezhi&aka, etc., etc., etc.

Probably the main criteria for a good pedal gift for me is that it is not a one-trick pony. A pedal is never a pony, but some pedals are so specific in their sound that they can easily be overused. I play out a fair bit and do short tours throughout the year, so almost everything in my setup has to be useful in more than one context or has to play a more general role. Pedals with wet/dry or mix controls are key. I need to be able to blend as much or as little wet signal into my chain as the situation demands.

This is getting to be way too long, but I'm going to carry on with it.

To give you an idea of how I'm currently working, here is my band's signal chain:

SM-58 Beta - Mixer - Aux Loops:
Aux Loop 1: Digitech VHM-5, Bitquest, PS-3, TimeFactor.
Aux Loop 2: PS-5, CT-5, Superego, Nemesis, Wet V1
Superego FX Loop: Moog MF-Drive, HR-2
Also running into the board are an RC-20XL into a Particle on one channel and a tape player on another.
Until recently the Nemesis was an E2D.

We just finished an album, so I am about to expand my setup to include a couple of synths and 4 aux loops. Time to keep learning.


On the subject of music/recordings, old cassettes of field recordings are cool. Field recordings you made would be even cooler. Or things like those weird relaxation tapes (without music) that describe the life of a businessman or harried housewife in the liner notes and offer an escape through the sound of gulls on the California coast. Or guided meditation tapes and recorded sermons. Tapes that promise a better life or at least a brief reprieve from how shitty the 80's and early 90's were; tapes that condemn the sins of the modern world. I love that shit.

If you wanted to give me proper music, something you made that you're proud of would be cool, or something deep and long (think Pauline Oliveros, Laurie Spiegel, Eleh, Field of Hats, Kevin Drumm, etc., etc.). I like music that reaches into the depths. I want to feel something ineffable or I want to disappear into the sound.

Glad to see another VHM-5 user! How do you mainly use yours?

I've only used it in the band so far, so just on my bandmate's voice. I really like the sound of the autotune on this, so we use that a little bit (so easy to overuse...) and then some of the 5-part harmonies. We've run into trouble with the pitch tracking if it is picking up too much from the monitors. Haven't found a solution for that other than in-ear monitors or having a pro on the monitor mixes, but we rarely play in places with someone on the monitor mix and we haven't tried IEMs yet.

How do you use yours?

Funny, I'd almost forgotten that it's meant for vocals lol. The tracking is definitely not the best, even when controlled via midi, but the way it glitches can be kinda cool. I usually use mine to make pads from monophonic synths, I love the sound of that engine. I have occasionally used it in a feedback loop. I have some videos on ig featuring it:

There's some issue with the power on my unit, so I'm considering either the Vocalist II which is a rack version of the VHM-5 or it's successor called Studio Vocalist.

I don't have a ton of posts that would be helpful for my SS, so here's some stuff:

Pedals: Reverse delay is my favorite effect. Pitch-shift is cool, too. I've been thinking about something to slightly dirty up my signal at the beginning or end of my chain. The Land Devices HP2 is making me feel a lot of feelings lately and I’ve always wanted to throw a Fuck on the end of my chain. I flipped a CT5 once way too early and have regretted it ever since. Every ILF builder is legit. My current signal chain is Mini > BitQuest > Limbo III Compact > Avalanche Run. I feel like I'm one pedal away from having the perfect mini-board. If you dig through my posts there might be some more stuff in there about the Jazzblaster I've been piecing together for a while.

Size L for any shirts or anything.

Would love a good book if you have a favorite. Cormack McCarthy is my jam. Good Omens is my favorite. Can't go wrong with westerns or sci-fi. Western sci-fi is next level.

I smoke a tobacco pipe and listen to old country on vinyl, unironically because I'm from BFE East Texas, not because I'm a hipster from Austin. I've been looking for Gillian Welch's "Hell Among the Yearlings" for years, but really anything is great on the music side of things. What's your favorite local artist? Send me that.
