Semi-Hollow Users Unite!

Post by Jero »

Alright so lately I have been looking for a good semi hollow with a $300 or so price tag. The one sticking out the most is an Xaviere 910 (more specifically the metallic gold one) http://store.guitarfetish.com/xvsehoalp90d.html. It's kind of like a 335/Casino. My only concern with the Xavieres is that I've heard so many mixed things about them (the company, not the 910 specifically). I know several members here have gotten these before, so I'm interested in what you guys think?

Also, what other semi hollows would you suggest, that fall in that price range? Ibanez Artcore, Agile etc...? I am handy, and def mod ready, but I'd prefer to find something with the least amount of out-of-the-box work required.

If you wouldn't mind paying closer to $400, you should look into the Squier Classic Vibe Thinline Tele.
I snagged one a couple of months ago and I couldn't be happier with it.

Reverand guitars are great... they're chambered, with a solid top. Cool sound, sleek looks and great playability.

I've had great luck with some no-name brands... I had a Hondo semi and it played like a dream, I just didn''t like the pups. I recently scored an unbranded Trini Lopez copy (fully hollow!) and it sounds amazing!! The perfect jazz guitar, in my opinion. Just try every one you come across and I'm sure you'll find something that suits your needs.

My main guitar is an Epiphone Sheraton II from teh early 90s - great guitar :thumb:

I'm guessing you should be able to get one second hand for 300 or less.
ILF pedals: DE Eye of God, Mellowtone Wolf Computer, Mellowtone Singing Tree LE, Fuzzhugger Arc Flash Oscillator, DSc Miniberator, Mysterious J boost/cut/tremolo pedal

Hey, I just realised I don't actually have a solid body guitar -- mine are an ES335 and one of those Silvertones.
I wouldn't want the Silvertone as my only guitar though -- it has its uses for sure, but it's not for everything.

My vote would be the Artcore -- at least the older Ibanezes I've played have been good. No idea about the new ones...

Those artcore guitars are great! ...At least the deep body jazzbox ones. Probably the best jazzbox at that price point.
There were so many slept-on guitars in the mid-late 90's. Especially the ones made by Ibanez were fanstastic.

Check out the Ibanez AS-73. Played one in the store the other day, and it was a great sounding and feeling guitar. You can get them used for under 300 fairly regularly.

I've got a Daisy Rock semi-hollow I love. They've since upgraded the newer model with a Bigsby: http://www.daisyrock.com/products/elect ... -h-de-luxe
The only thing I've considered changing about it is the pickups and they're pretty decent as-is.
