And please, note that the catch in my proposal is "if money was no object". I intend to make some cash so I can enjoy myself a little. Pizza truck or bicycle repairs can only land that in dream world or Azeroth maybe.

By the way, the "sunk cost" thing relates a lot to engagement theory in communications/marketing. Interesting reads if you wanna build on that

No I really do think you should exhaust your options in your chosen field before making a sharp turn. One or two bad experiences don't tell us enough...you need to have a shitload, get bitter, and then leave. Thats the opportunity promise of education.

I'm on my sixth gig in my field, and they've gotten worse as I've 'taken on responsibility.' Pay is good, but now I can't turn work mode off, nor do I do the things I set out to accomplish. That's why I say maybe get into trades or what usually is thought of as 'blue collar' work...that's what I used to do, and there is zero expectation that your work will follow you home, or that you'll be 'accountable to stakeholders' or other neoliberal bullshit phrases.

I'm addressing a general 'you' here because I'm afraid to diagnose myself.

Stay strong, D'arcy, and keep making inferior pizza.
The most merciful thing in the world, I think, is the inability of the human mind to correlate all its contents.

But also I'm in the last year of 7-8 years of law studies. So... I'm probably gonna go through with that
For what it's worth, my sister studied law and criminology until her PhD, then realized she actually didn't like it that much and wanted to do something that made her happy and after trying a few things ended up being a storyteller (conteuse in French). She still likes that, it works well for her and she's quite happy with it (though money would probably have been better as a lawyer).

So heh, you can do whatever you want ;). Airline pilot has a long and expensive training, though, but it can be done. A friend of mine started stuying that after a few years doing other things in university and then working in different fields (including writing scenarios for videogames) and he's been a pilot for quite a few years now.

You should check out a book called "Shop class as soulcraft".

Nice post Osc, thanks. I'm conscious of my options, but current decisions have more to do with practicality... like getting a pay check that isn't internship wage ASAP etc... also I have a complex relationship to work in general in that I try to avoid being passionate in my work and working in my passions. I like it to be intellectually engaging - which is the case in law, puzzles all day long- but it's also important for me to be able to turn off work mode as IM put it very well. Finding the right balance is always a little difficult and the exhaustion of long studies has taken a toll on me, I have to admit. But for now at least, the focus is more on achieving the means of my own private existence, such as finally moving out etc... and sustainably. I wouldn't mind doing law 8 hours a day for the rest of my life, but sure, sometimes it feels like a shorter path to a paycheck would have been better.

And who knows, maybe I can invest in a pizza truck with the law wage and just do both you know?

Food trucks can make pizzas and food trucks are trendy. But it's also a pretty bloated market.

Nooooo... he has always been the worsted guy to screw with on stuff like that. He through bottles at my truck and we've found bullets in the cables near that apt complex he lives in.

There is a different schizo that was a little fun to play along with but he was harmless and in a much safer neighborhood. That guy was "calling the FBI" about us for a few weeks claiming we had tapped his phone through his commercial A/C.

Looking back I would have liked to learn blacksmithing and welding, that would have been cool.. still I have a degree in traditional boatbuilding and repair, and that has served me well for that whole something to fall back on thing without having to actually ever get a job in that field :idk: You can learn a lot from vocational college programs.

Yeah, it's always much better to finish things, especially when they take time. Much more satisfying and you have more options afterwards.
