I believe in the possibility/probability of alien life forms, but not that aliens are visiting Earth and abducting people. The people I've met who were really adamant believers in aliens visiting or being on Earth currently were kind of loopy to bordering on scary.

The odds of a species gaining the technology to travel interstellar distances, and then deciding to waste enough energy to get over here, just to butt probe a few people, is insanely unlikely.

Edit: What I mean is that anyone who legitimately believes in aliens should be able to see the logic precluding the above behaviour.
But yeah, loonies gotta loon.

Yes yes, but what if they're not here "just to butt probe a few"?
What if in "gaining the technology to travel interstellar distances" they managed to fuck up their planet, kinda like we are doing now,
and when they finally find a suitable planet: it's occupied. Bummer!
What if they then butt probe a few to determine wether it makes more fiscal sense to get rid of the inhabitants or enslave them?
Or how many to kill, how many to keep for pleasure, labour & sports?
What if this already happened?
What if there's REPTILES AMONG US?!?!11!??12??!!?

If you ever get into reporting/podcasting covering conventions for things like aliens, bigfoot, ghosts, psychic powers, etc. you start to see a lot of commonalities and archetypal characters. My wife listens to some podcasts about stuff like that and she was relaying someone getting up at one of those UFO conventions at a Q&A and starting with "As we all know, all our memories from before 1997 are implants, because the (insert some really specific made up alien race name) wiped our memories after an unknown cataclysmic event, so we don't need to get into that, but...". There's some people who are kind of like hey, I would like believe this, it scratches some specific mental/emotional itch for me and there are people who just have created an entire world in order to give everything a meaning. I get it, there's a million versions of that in life and history, but when you get down to the versions that just 1-5 people believe, it can get kind of intense and frightening.

What if there are tons of alien civilizations out there but the laws of physics of the universe make it impossible for any of them to travel any farther than man has done with its spaceships?
With that Fermi paradox thingy, it assumes that faster than light travel is possible, what if its not?

One of the best explanations of why the Fermi Paradox might not make sense is that we're sending out messages with radio waves and waiting for a response. Other civilizations might not get those messages for hundreds or thousands of years, if ever. They may not use radio waves for communication. Just because they can receive the transmission doesn't mean they can translate it. On and on and on.

just so you know, there is no such thing as space...and if there was...it would be impossible to travel for obvious reasons, there are rules and the greys everyone has seen in their dreams or in the sky or wherever are just humans from the future, okay....just forget it.

so true, so true.....its started in 1934 and ended in 1945 after the war there was a cheese shortage, just like there was a carrot shortage and in order to get more people interested in taking up caseiculture ...the powers that be devised a plan to not only tell the public that carrots will provide better eye sight but they faked the memorable moon rock collision in 1939 in where like James in the giant peach there was a town in Auburn Alabama which held duty to the towns people to show the world what a farmer named Curl Huts wifes sister saw crash land in their begonia garden.....the world took to looking at the sky then and ate the carrots too so they could see way up there.....the moon rock was of course was taken by the secret police and replaced with a piece of cheese.... would you like to know more?

well to sum it all up the french had sub atomic missiles they uncovered from a valley with strange writings, it seemed history does repeat its self and that the Russians are an ancient race that led a technological revolution in 45 b.c which somehow disappeared, so in finding this missile some stupid french officer at base camp threw a cigarette which lit the sub atomic fuse and off the missile went directly towards the moon, the fucking french blew up the real moon, what we see now was made in china and placed up in the sky.. NOT SPACE.. by the u.s.a.

The counter argument to this is that, just because a civilization doesn't communicate the same way we do, it doesn't mean they wouldn't recognize intelligence from that attempted communication (of course, there's also the possibility that what we view as just random radio waves from stars and such is also a foreign civilization attempting communication and we're just too stupid to figure that out). :idk:
If they're curious enough (or imperialistic enough), though, there's probably a halfway decent chance they'd consider sending something to check out what the hell's sending those bursts of radio waves.
