I had a 10 gallon aquarium when I was a kid. My favorite fish were cardinal tetras and marble hatchet fish. You can also get those bottom feeders that help keep the tank clean, but I can't remember what they're called. Yeah, it's really cool to see it in a room that is dark except for the aquarium light.

I didn't use active charcoal in the filter, nor a micron filter, just a layer of floss to remove physical crap before I ran it through a wet/dry tower and pumped it back up. So it was always a little bit cloudy, even a 20% water change took about an hour or so to complete because of teh magnitude. With the sump and the main tank, 20% was about 40 gallons.

my wife has had a saltwater tank ever since we first met (over 10 years). I can ask her if you have a specific question, might be a little different with saltwater though. We don't have many fish, but tons of shit living in there.

I've had two old little R2D2 style Macintoshes for like 20 years I wanted to build into desk top fish tanks.

Now, though, I think they're worth more as collector's items than they would be as fish tanks.
