I dunno man. They've always been poppy for sure but when hybrid theory came out it was a pretty interesting sound, with the electronics integrated in a way that wasn't as tacky as other bands of their ilk.snipelfritz wrote:Fuck suicide, but also fuck anyone who is acting like Linkin Park hasn't always been a joke.
And yeah. suicide is always sad, and props to the breaux who are sorting their shit out.

I feel like its entirely possible for people to have fun at a band's expense while still recognizing that a) they resonate with loads of other people the way your favorite music resonates with you, and b) that even if their band was not your bag they're still people and this stuff still sucks for their friends and family.

Of all the things I would have stolen from Chris Cornell's career, this might not have been the best option.

I respectfully disagree. People who say these kinds of things might want to consider that they may in fact have no idea what living with severe depression and suicidal thoughts is like.comesect2.0 wrote:raj007 wrote:But this dude has 6 kids ....FUCK HIM for doing that to them. That being said, I listened to their first two albums when I was younger. Listening to them again is not something I ever felt like doing, but still...gateway albums. Appreciated.

Come here to say this. Celebrity or not, 'good' musician or not, this blows. A lot of people (for better or worse) connected with this guy's lyrics. Now they see that he never found a way out despite fame, wealth, and adoration. That's a bad sign.D.o.S. wrote:they're still people
This one doesn't really hit me, but I'm surprised at how much Robin Williams and Cornell shook me.

Yeah, personally it just makes it that much more tragic, people do get kind of insensitive about others that have Depression and some people still treat it like it's a personality trait. But it effects everyone so differently, all that matters is that everyone finds their own way to beat it or atleast endure itUglyCasanova wrote:I respectfully disagree. I did grow up with the first 2 albums and dropped out, haven't listened to them well over 13 years but it's still a bummer.

Agreed.
Sorry for getting touchy about this boys. LP were a gateway band into metal when I was younger, so losing Chester was a big blow that came from nowhere. On top of that, suicide is not a fucking joke. Having kids doesnt kill depression, nether does fame, and it can still lead to unbareable pain regardless of your situation. So when I saw the "fuck him for being selfish" thing, I checked out.
I love all of you, even thru massive bullshit. I just needed some time.

there i made my point, at least wait till your kids grow up so you can be like listen johnny......better to have love and lost than never loved at all.
its called life, it fucking sucks.
^and ya ya earth is beautiful and life is a dope gift, but the world we have created as a whole, is a joke.
is poisoning your self over long periods of time, sealing your fate, considered suicide....the only selfish note on anystory of suicide is rushed suicide, if tomarrow isnt any better, and the next year is the same, and you find your self 10 15 20 years down the road with the same thoughts/feeling yet keeping it to your self....."a prison becomes a home...if you have the key"

Re: Linkin Park Singer Hung Himself
Hey, man, I just disagree with you. I tried killing myself 12 years ago, so I'm speaking from personal experience as well as anyone else who has or is suffered through that hell. The mind and mental health is a myriad of difficulties and complexities, I'm just saying that I don't agree that all life is worth living, despite external factors, like having a family. I'm in the boat you're describing. Still clinically depressed, but still sticking around because the alternative is non-existence, which seems less fruitful. But I can see how ending it is also an option that I can respect others choosing. Again; I respectfully disagree.

Also residual guilt for saying homeboy's tattoos were kinda played. We don't speak ill of the almost-dead.
