changed my mind, staying... anybody looking for roomates?

Post by decomposing »

Think I'm finally done with the Seattle area killing my will to live by it's many varied annoyances and going down to PDX. Should have done this long ago but the stigma held me back and just focused on what I could do still up here. That ship has sailed. I have a few friends down there that say it's still better than here. Was thinking bay area, but I haven't been there in over a decade and all the research I do seems bad. I see so many Cali plates up here too fleeing that state. Ugh.

I just want to be really stoned and have this all work out but that's not life. Think I have a solid place lined up through a friend but will need a roommate if anybody on here is interested in living with a chill dude and his deaf dog. Hit me up, it's pretty affordable and close to the city too. Need to get my stuff going again and think that PDX could work as a homebase. Anyways, thought I would pop a flare here with you dudes to see what's up.

Also if anyone knows of good practice spots where your stuff won't get jacked? I don't want to lug my 4x12 all the time.

Thanks fuzzheads.

I've been here for about two years, but I've kept one foot out the door (so to speak). But now that I've scored a full time job here, I'm trying to put down roots. I have no information on good jam spots and I'm not looking for a roommate, but if you're looking for a potential new friend then drop me a line

cool, there's some good shows coming up too.

I will be thinking hard about doing the same when my current lease is done, but that's February. What's so great about Portland?

Sounds good. I always like goin' to shows

I've avoided craigslist because of how frequently people move away from Portland after moving here (and I feel like those are generally sort of people who are going to try looking on craigslist for friends). From what I've heard, they underestimate how expensive Portland is and have to move away? Where you're from Seattle, though. It might seem a little cheaper to you?

The good:
weather: sure it's rainy all winter, but it's almost non stop sun and temperate weather all summer
lots of cool music gear stores
lots of good places to eat
there's that attitude of "keep Portland weird" that takes away any social pressure to look a certain way (i work in an office and sport biker boots, a beard, and a pompadour every day)
lots of good smaller shows
lots of good outdoorsey stuff that's relatively close

the bad:
it's expensive (I pay over $1k in rent every month and it's a one bedroom with about 700 sq ft)
people are almost militantly organic/gluten free/vegan here. This is a really weird one to grapple with sometimes.
traffic is awful
the cyclists don't follow any known laws of for the road

yeah I agree with a lot of that. I was considering the Bay area but a bit south. I grew up in OC/LA so I'm used to traffic ans while it's getting pretty bad up in the NW, especially the Seattle and Eastside areas because there's no space. At least Portland has traffic figured out, when I was there around 5 o clock it was nothing and moved. Unlike here now, it's almost as bad as LA in some spots on the freeway now. And I guess they have the worst traffic in the WORLD now...

I agree with this. Good for artists and musicians to do their thing and not have to pay either SF or Seattle prices. I just like the vibe of the city more too. It was always a good escape for me from how uptight Seattle is. Not like I've lived there in a bit. Everybody is priced out from Amazon and the like...

I thought there were separate trails for the bikes? There are no real bike lanes up here and so you have to "share" the small lanes. And they are DICKS. I mean I get it. But come on. I always rode on the sidewalk because I don't trust anybody.
And I have crazy allergies now that I'm trying to heal so their hardcore food ways are just what I need. Seattle is not about eating healthy really, they think they do but they're crazy. The older hippie/yuppies yeah, but they're kind of annoying...

I feel like national politics have convinced a lot of people to move to the NW? :idk: I'm from Utah, and since trump got elected it seems like all my Utah friends are trying to at least flee the state to come love in Oregon.

I'm a big fan of Portland's attitude, but I've never lived in any other big city. :idk:

In some places they do have dedicated bike trails, but because the streets are so narrow they usually just share the road. I definitely understand biking on the sidewalk, but I just covered my bike with lots of reflective tape and lights. It definitely helps.

I have my own version of eating healthy that doesn't really seem to fit with anyone else's? I watch my calories, carbs, and sodium intake, and try to take multivitamins to get the other nutrients I need :idk: The older hippies/yuppies/etc.are awful, though

Same goes for pedestrians!

I love Portland as much as I love any small town in the NW tbh.

I'm thinking of going to Portland for a few days. Trying to move from the Tristate Area cause I've lived here my whole life and I don't plan on wasting my life working absurdly hard to pay for the cost of living here. Not sure if Portland is the answer but I've always wanted to go. Are there any other weird cities in the USA? I've lived in Philly (which has changed a lot over the past 5 years), lived outside NYC most of my life, lived in Los Angeles and really did not like it.

Not US but I heard Toronto is pretty cool.

Portland is rad...super relaxing, went up to helens but they blocked it off for bad weather, sounded like construction...snuck past barricade till some mysterious whistle sounded and the dog ran, next thing ya know forest dicks pull up.....but theres a silence so heavy its the loudest sound ever over this one lake....
what are those damn little kiosks that serve coffee? one of the coffee choices is 911 heart attack or somthing....want to go back. beautiful streams...you walk off into the mountains without some forest dick coming after you and its a wild other world...

it's just so beautiful and has so much so close. I'm spoiled.
