Agreed 100%. :thumb: If you can't talk to the neighbors, talk to the landlord. If the mic on your cell phone is sensitive enough, make a video so you have a recording so he can get a feel for how loud it gets in your apartment.

On the other hand if merely talking to a neighbor gets you blacklisted, what does them being noisy get them?
Might use that to your advantage ;-)

Put your guitar amp on a ladder right underneath where you think their bed is play some chugga chugga and feedback loops at 6am.
Seriously fuck apartments. I'd rather live with weirdos off of craigslist in a house.
Sounds like you have to talk to the landlord or ask them to be considerate on the weekdays or buy some headphones and move when the lease is up. Are they young and on summer break from school or something?

I'd live with weirdos off craigslist if I was single, but I'm living with my girlfriend and finding a roomshare situation that'd work for a couple is really hard. It's not so bad for me because I have a job and I'm gone most of the day, but my girlfriend's unemployed and the constant loud noise is really starting to effect her mental health...

I think our current plan is talking to the landlord about the neighbors. If that doesn't help, then we're going to talk to our landlord about paying the money to break the lease. I really don't want to break my lease if I don't have to, but if this doesn't stop we really don't have many options...

Full stacks of peaveys and crates.

Try to talk to them first, be kind and have very good reasons on why it bothers you.

Are you allowed to leave a note (which may be perceived as passive-aggressive, but your rental agreement leaves you few choices) or is that considered "talking"?
That's considered "talking" as well. I wouldn't mind talking to them first if that were allowed, because I don't want to make it harder for them to find a new place (i.e. I don't want to make it so they're stuck living above me because their rental history's filled with noise complaints). I have no idea if they'd get kicked out after enough noise complaints or not.

Snake Plissken: Got a smoke?
Malloy: The United States is a no-smoking nation. No smoking, no drinking, no drugs. No women - unless of course you're married. No guns, no foul language... no red meat.
Snake Plissken: [sarcastic] Land of the free.

so you cant do anything.....................lets see, being apart of a community which is an apartment, gives you the right away to talk to your neighbors about anything....
"office office listen! my neighbor was like "oh the weathers nice'' and stuff then he was like btw....."the walls are pretty thin here egh!?" and I totally snapped and ran straight to yall, i think hes mad!"
never have people gotten crazy over not being condescending, just smooth it in...the walls are thin brah.....talk it out....only thing that they would do, if their dicks are laugh to their significant other when they shut the door then pretend their donkey kong for a few...
:picard: ive had to tell cops to fudge off coming at me saying my neighbors complained, so I would scream out "YOU WOKE UP MY BABY!" to the cops and off the little officers would go....idk where you live but, sounds like a move is for sure.

Yeah, I'd say you have no choice but to complain to your landlord. (As lame an option as that is.) :idk:

Landlord?....you mean office goons. Better than the H.O.A. but less likely to do anything.

He lives onsite, so, hopefully he's a bit more effective than if it were run by some big management company?

That should make it easy, just ask him to come over when your neighbors are shaking the plaster off your walls so he can hear it for himself.

Definitely going to invite the landlord over to hear that wall-shaking bass.

I live in Portland, Or. The housing market is insane here, and it takes a lot of work to get into an apartment.

I'm always paranoid that I'm the loud neighbour even though I know the volume levels and times/frequency I play really aren't bad, and gave my number to the two neighbours I have. I've never been asked to quiet down, but would feel very comfortable just getting a text saying "Hey do you mind wrapping it up for today" or something. It seems absolutely absurd that you're not allowed to communicate with them about these things, I kind of get why, but it seems weirdly strict. Maybe you could have a chat with them with the landlord as the mediator, to make sure everything is kept amicable etc? I knew one guy who had a problem similar to this in Seattle and his landlord ended up waiting for a vacancy to come up in the building and letting him move into that apartment, far away from the noisy neighbours. Maybe some similar arrangement could be made where you are?

Or idk, give some kids ten bucks to throw a brick through their window with a note saying "Please be quieter" on it.
