and as far a behavioral changes caused by the world wide web... when it first happend I could see right away threw the available chat rooms...people scrolling out dicks and ass's, 1st generation, every body wanted to be a hacker...you tried to get real educated on "that stuff"

from holding out for so long, and just this past year having a smartphone and playing with that stuff....it just goes to show we are finished, our final step in the process of our species is to somehow bring out what we can and mimic threw what computers are slowly being presented to public by, it is instant sensation and for fills an instant need, it all comes from beyond mans image, beyond A.I. ..its the wet ware, we've become more telepathic as ever, theres dimensions, all this electronic music, all this web meditation, all this im somebody else who are them simulation how could you be here random gates take you to roads that last forever WE ARE RIPPIN THE PAST OUTA FACE WE ARE CLIMBIN OUT! I have no smartphone, stationary computer, but I'm at home a lot and consequently online a lot. Like, all the time when not playing guitar or reading or something. Always had a computer, but no internet at home until '02 maybe.

Anyway, two weeks ago the router went down friday-monday. It sucked so bad. Had to get out some old DVDRs and re-watch a Lil Wayne documentary and all kinds of stuff to ease my anxiety. Luckily I had a new bass to keep me entertained, and I went to a friend's house to jam and stayed overnight. Which I do most weekends anyway, but not having internet does intensify that feeling of "fuck staying in" x100. I can live without a smartphone, actually I prefer being alert and interacting with my surroundings when I'm out and about, but I need my interwebz cave to dwell in otherwise.

Those CDs you had to buy for 12-16 dollars...maybe it wasn't as 'good' music (in a certain snobbish way), but it meant something more to you back then BECAUSE you had to fork over your moolah for it, and you didn't have your choice of everything under the sun. Everything is on youtube and you are exposed to so much good stuff but at the same time you are stealing it and its worth nothing to you in a way. Related, I think art is created in a vacuum of influence (or maybe you have a bit of influence but then you go into your own little void to make it), not in a bottomless pit of it like we have today.

Doesn't that make it less about what you're actually listening too? I'm not sure this happened to me, I don't remember any change in excitement or enjoyment once I went from driving to a store for CDs to spotify.

To be fair though I can't remember anytime besides camping that I haven't had the internet, and I've never felt bad about that. My brain has already been assimilated.

Some light internetting 1998-2002 (High School). Maybe a few hours a week. Pretty much no internet 2002-2006 (living in bumfuck Ohio then joining the military). The end of 06 to now, a lot of internet. I did move in to a place a 3 or 4 years ago that had no internet. I was there for 9 months, but I still had internet at work if needed. A lot of internet the past few years. Even more now that I have no bands and quit partying.
