I still don't see why they have to call say chicken/chik'n. Is this how strong branding is in the US? Will you get sued if you dont?jrfox92 wrote:It's chik'n.UglyCasanova wrote:1. I don't understand why you need to call it chicken if it's not chicken.
Looks like chicken.
"Tastes" like chicken (I don't remember, it's been something like 5 years since I last ate meat).
Plus, it's easier to sell something called "chik'n" than "sort-of like breaded chicken but it's actually some soy based fake meat thing".

I don't need to, but it's food that's designed to replicate chicken, so it's what I've historically called it. Oldangelmidnight's probably right; just non-specific "burger" or "patty" is probably fine. I just didn't know if anyone with older kids had gone through this, and had good or bad experiences with certain terminology.UglyCasanova wrote:1. My 5 year old just ate meat for the first time the other day. His grandma had some chicken salad and he wanted some so he got some. I'm less concerned about meat in general and more worried about fast food. His cousins eat Happy meals every day and their shits smell radioactive.

Re: Raising vegetarian children
Benny you're doing good.
We eat vegetarian but aren't vegetarians. I try to feed the little dudes food that is vegetarian by design - so instead of vegetarian meatballs and potatoes I'll just make felafel, which is pretty much the same shit but it's not trying to be something else. Indian cuisine is another easy one to work with as there are lots of dishes that don't have a meat equivalent - they just are.
But we'll buy vegetarian meatballs as well when we can't be fucked cooking and we just call them vegetarian meatballs. Which makes no sense at all but whatever.
Because we cook a lot from scratch the children (5 and 3 and 3) seem, or perhaps "seem" to understand the difference between vegetables and substitute-foods for want of a better word. They don't care.
We also talk about meat, and the fact that it's an animal that we're eating, and that demands some respect, and they seem to grasp that in their own little way.
Just talk to em like grown-ups and it'll sort itself out. don't go all smiths on them and say meat is murder, just tell em it's a choice you've made and they can do their own shit later.

Re: Raising vegetarian children
I'd call it vegetarian chicken and not worry about any logical consequences.
