Re: Anyone here a chef?
I was considering it, until I met my then girlfriend's brother-in-law. Who despised cooking, despite being a pretty successful chef. Seeing good folks burnt out on food put that career path firmly out of my mind. But I do like cooking well and eating well. I'm getting better at plating but I've got a long way to go. Just trying to keep things simple and balanced.

God I hate working with food.

Re: Anyone here a chef?
I spent about two years working as a chef. Started as a dishwasher in a tiny place where there was only myself and the chef so I helped with salads and stuff. One dinner service the chef stormed out, but no one saw, so I just finished dinner service by myself. No one even noticed until service was over.
I quit for all the aforementioned reasons. Not enough money, weird hours, stressful, and I was quickly becoming an alcoholic at age 20. The bar across the street was so mad when I had my 21st birthday party there after being a regular for over a year haha.
Still totally like to cook though! Now a days a lot of the fun is at all the little foody parties we got to with our other friends with little kids. All the moms are sneaky competitive about the food like a sad sit-com plot, and then I cook circles around them.

So I'm watching this video with Jean-Michel Jarre, and he says something I've thought for years. "Actually, electronic music is like cooking. Instead of dealing with spices and veges and all that, you deal with frequencies and textures and mixing them together". No wonder there are a lot of chefs on here.

I'm sure you're a good one...because you're here. I suspect you can confirm that a majority of chefs are assholes, though.

You are not wrong. Every chef I've ever worked for has been a monster so when I went from cook to chef I tried my fuckin best not to be a prick like the other dudes if worked for.
