Replacement for Memory Toy
I love this Memory Toy pedal and have been using it for 5 years or so. It boosts the volume significantly which in the past has been fine since I've used it mainly on lead parts that need a boost anyway, but now I'm playing in a band where this boost is a problem. I googled around but it looks like there's no real fix for it, so I guess I gotta get a new pedal.
I thought of the Carbon Copy, but the thing I like about the Memory Toy is that the modulation is vibrato-style and doesn't blend the unmodulated signal in like the CC does. Are there other options for delay pedals that can do this? What's the modulate mode on the DD-7 like, you can't adjust the speed/depth of it, right?
Would prefer not to spend more than $100 used if that's doable.

Memory boy deluxe, the one with tap tempo, has a gain knob. Theyre around 110-125 used. Plus, the modulation is way more controllable than on the toy. My favorite delay pedal for the price and features.

I thought the Toy has a gain trim pot inside?

Re: Replacement for Memory Toy
The memory toy I have has a gain trim pot inside to adjust the volume. if I recall correctly, it is set so the volume is at unity when the blend is 50/50 at noon. Every time you adjust the blend you have to adjust the trim though. so if you use that a lot it's probably not practical. I know there are a lot of versions so they might not all have it. All that said...get an echo puss. They're around 100 used and sound great.

Unless there's a vol trim pot inside your MT, I'll have to second the Echo Puss suggestion. Actually, get an Echo Puss either way, it's fucking awesome, I'm a tool for selling mine

I use that blend knob pretty often so that's probably not going to work. Out of curiosity, which trimpot is it? I think mine is Revision B.

Re: Replacement for Memory Toy
The deluxe memory boy does some weird stuff. Has a cool sequencer mode and can get super grungy using the tap tempo to get longer delay times. Wish I hadn't traded mine.

I feel like I'm always tooting the DMB's horn like Brands might for the Timebender...
It has a lot of aces up its sleeve including said sequencer-mode that steps thru the tempodivisions, a feedbackloop & a filter in the fb-path
I love mine to bits & would only let it go if I found the In Limbo being as awesome as I dream it is
(And I had the cash....)

I hate moodswings are awesome! Oh, and I usually post when I'm way too tired...

Re: Replacement for Memory Toy
The gain trimpot is trim 7. You can see it in the second pic below on the left side. But that means on rev. B you have to remove the top circuit board to get to it. Not very convenient. On later revisions they moved it between the jacks so you can actually get to it easily. Duh EHX!

Thanks dug that rules. Hopefully I can remove the top circuit board without breaking it! When you say moving the blend knob messes with the unity gain, how so?
Shit, maybe I should take my RE-20 off of synth duty and put it on the guitar board, then get a cheap reverb for my synth since that's mostly what I was using it for in this setup anyway.

Re: Replacement for Memory Toy
Well, from my experience I use the MT with the blend around 10-11 o'clock. When I turn the pedal on there is a volume boost. Like you said most of the time I use it for lead parts so it works well with a little bump in volume. But say I wanted 10-11 to be unity. So i go in and turn the gain trim down. Now if I move the blend back to 12 and turn the pedal on there is actually a volume drop.

Oh word I get it. yeah that's gonna be a problem, I tend to move the blend around a bit. Shit.

Oh shit what if I just get a Digidelay for $50 and take advantage of all its other modes in recording?

Re: Replacement for Memory Toy
Give that RE20 some use! The reverb on it has a cool dirty sound, but that pedal seems wasted if you're just using it for that!

Re: Replacement for Memory Toy
It gets lots of other use, just not in this band. I could use my FRV-1 on the synth instead and use my RE-20 on the board though. I don't know why I didn't think of that earlier*
