I just started "Fahrenheit 451" for a class after finishing "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's nest." Mandated reading is cool when the books are good.

After that I will go back to finish the anthology of Hemingway's short stories. I adore him! You must read "The Sun Also Rises" if you like him and haven't. MUST.

I would recommend 2666 by roberto bolano----actually anything by roberto bolano is great.

have just read Cloud Atlas....v.good, have got to finish Popco by Scarlet Thomas(The end of mr Y was fantastic) before moving on to 2666.

I traded books with my friend for a train ride. His Gravity's Rainbow was in horrible condition but I read the first couple pages. It seemed like an awesome read. I'd like to get my hands on it eventually.
well i guess, but i just don't know.

I forgot to mention that we're reading Joseph Conrad's Heart of Darkness in my English class. Great book. I had never known that Apocalypse Now was Coppola's adaptation of the novella. Definetely recommended, Conrad was a genius.

P:

It's not so difficult after a few pages when you start to understand the writing style.

god i'm such an old fart... going through a major "i need to know everything about WW2" phase, been watching the HBO show The Pacific which was based in large part on this book.

It begins with a Marine's first encounter with actual combat--the invasion of Peleliu. My grandfather was shot twice on those beaches but survived. Crazy stuff.

dude ive been watching the pacific too!
its. so. good.
and now its done :(

but i want to read the book as well. i bet the sale of sledge's books went up like a bagillion times.
