ILF BOOK CLUB: Entry the First: The City & The City

Post by Invisible Man »

Let's get it going--some folks are already in. People can pop in and out as time and interest allow; no real format except maybe putting together a schedule for reading based on chapters/sections/page #s other arbitrary divisions of time, space, and narrative.

First entry: China Mieville's The City & The City, which is am SF-Fantasy neo-noir kind of thing (haven't read it, can't describe it too well) written by a very ILF-esque person.

How about we wait to start until say, the second week of February to 1) get some momentum behind this and 2) to give people a chance to get a copy in whatever format they'd like to use?

Also: the period before we start might be a good time to put together suggestions for next entries. I'll put forward B. Traven's Death Ship, which is a fucking killer novel I think most people would enjoy (one I would love to read again).

:success:

EDIT for schedule:

For discussion on- or after 2/10:

Chapters 1-4

For discussion on- or after 2/17:

5-8

Explain please? I'm a horror guy, so I may be bored out of my mind reading sci fi. No offense to the sci fi crowd. I just don't dig it. Is there a criteria for this of some kind? Rules??? How does it work?

I don't see any need for rules...what do you mean? I figured folks who are interested could read stuff at the same time and talk about it here.

I guess we could post discussion questions or something like that, but honestly it'd feel like a class, and I don't think that'd be much fun.

Once we get a couple people on it, we'll set up a loose schedule so as not to spoil things for people who haven't read that far. I figure that's enough. Let anarchy reign, Jwar.

No; kindly fuck off.

Yes, of course. But you should just contribute to the klub if you read it recently, duder.
