Re: The Automotive (& other mechanized vehicles) thread
Hey guys, big milestone for me tonight. I've leased a VW GTI for the past 3 years and absolutely loved it. 200HP, 6 speed manual, the works. However, I did go significantly over my milage so I planned to buy it.
I didn't.
I was looking around on Craigslist for cars around here with a stick and found a 2011 BMW 328i in great shape with a 6 speed. Just went in to the dealership, traded in the GTI, put a very small amount of $$ down and left with what I can only describe as the funnest car I've driven.
RWD, 250 HP, 6 speed manual, fully loaded, coupe etc...
This isn't it (it's night time here and I haven't taken pics yet) but here's what it looks like:

I haven't told anyone that I bought it yet but I had to tell my ilfbreaux.
I didn't.

That's awesome!
Funnest cars are the bestest cars.

Re: The Automotive (& other mechanized vehicles) thread
My intake manifold finally decided to shit itself. I knew it was coming but hoped it'd be like...after tax returns. Or when i could pay my credit card off. Or when i hadn't just lost a week of work. Bleh.
And i couldn't afford the aluminum one, which should be the standard, so i had to go with a plastic one which will inevitably fail again.

Re: The Automotive (& other mechanized vehicles) thread
That blows dude.
After apending a boatload on my Jimny its developed a grinding sound between 2.5-3k revs while accelerating.
Apparently the culprit is most likley the vacuum hubs, which makes sense as i had an issue with them not actualising after i got my rear axle work done. Which means my mechanic should have to cover it at no cost.
If its not though i really hope im not up for big money.

I have a shitty but goodie Hyundai Sonata 09.
I wish I could get an early 90s Corvette or one of those rally Subarus, import fees would be more than the car itself and that makes me sad af.

I have this weird love with rally cars, I hate the noisy they are because they remind me of motorcycles and I hate those with passion, but they look so fucking sexy... and the drifting <3

Re: The Automotive (& other mechanized vehicles) thread
On my off days, I'm responsible for shitbox fleet repair.

'95 Corolla 1.8 bought from a friend for $400. 176k miles, runs well but needs a new clutch soon. I'm 6'7" and it's actually kinda cozy, but I'll lose some height in the event of a crash.
'98 Grand Marquis in its natural habitat. Just hit 100k. Note the 2x2.
Not pictured: My girlfriend's '97 Lumina. It needs a new power steering pump. Working on this car is damaging to the soul.
Between the two of us, we have half a car at any given time.

Re: The Automotive (& other mechanized vehicles) thread
So, ATM I have a 09 TDI Jetta sportwagen. This is the 5th VW I have owned and the first Auto Transmission. The DSG tranny is cool and all but I miss 3 pedals. Anywho, VW is buying my TDI here pretty soon so I am looking for a new car. I am torn between a 2017 GTI and a Sportwagen. I love being able to haul lots of shit and in time with some tuning I can make the wagen into a sleeper. but the temptation to just go with a GTI and have some power immediately with less need for upgrades to things like suspension and wheels is pretty great. What do you guys think?

I'm always for the greater haulage option.
