I liked it.
I understand the criticism about two-dimensional characters and whatnot, but it's not like it matters that much (I won't say more to avoid the spoilers).
The planetary scenes are beautiful and probably the only reason I wish I saw it in 3D.

I mean complaining about two-dimensional characters in Star Wars is like complaining about Iambic pentameter in Shakespeare -- it's part and parcel of the experience.

I don't know what you guys are talking about. Tarkin was obviously three-dimensional.

Yeah not sure how I feel about the Cushing resurrection. Why was it necessary?
The most merciful thing in the world, I think, is the inability of the human mind to correlate all its contents.

Who else is supposed to take control of the Death Star?

No, I get that part--could have been a lackey stand-in, or an establishing shot from the back or something (extra menace). They made a guy who's been dead for over twenty years a significant supporting actor in a blockbuster movie. Strange choice.

Probably because, outside of Vader and the Emperor, he's the main representative of the Empire that people recognize and expect to see. Also, because they need to spend that CGI money somehow.

Same reason a hologram of a guy who's been dead 20 years headlines festivals and award shows...?

This.

I've never understood why people seem to demand some kind of rich character experience from Star Wars... when has that ever happened? It's just fun.

Anyway, going tonight. Stoked.

As soon as I heard Ip Man was in Star Wars I was on board, yep, this is gonna be good. And it is good.
