Any idea what type of riding he likes to do? I buy a little bit different wheels depending on what type of skating I'm doing predominately

yeah mostly street, don't think he hits parks often. rides pretty fat old school decks, wide and have one flat end.

Word. I always like bones wheels. I'd look at the STF types, in like 54 or 55 mm. Then just pick whichever graphic you prefer.
That's a pretty universal size and my favorite formula for roll speed and smoothness. That being said, I haven't been skating for like two years, so someone might have more up to date info.

ok, thanks. his ex-roommate told me to go 58 or a little bigger but didn't know where on the hard or soft scenario. <insertTWSS>

Just don't get too close to 100—too hard is no fun for riding street. 55mm-ish is a good call, maybe aim for softness around 90? I've always liked Bones and Spitfires.

Spitfires are the shit. Smaller is better. Haven't skated in a decade though. Never achieved much either (too many constant injuries) and all I kept was a cheap board with no name wheels and like Relik trucks, so you might want to take this with a grain of salt
Good deals: OsbornKT, Phantasmagorovich, UglyCasanova, DarkAxel, Skip, D.o.S, ColdBrightSunlight, Eivind August, Goroth

Ahhh gotcha, I'd say 59 or 60mm 80-90a. I really liked the Powell or Bones. It's been a while since I've been able to skate, but those sizes worked for me at the time and I was about 6'1 210lbs

I miss skateboarding sometimes, but after breaking both of my legs at once back in the day I've had a physical aversion to it bordering on phobia.
