I've been getting a lot of weird mom tupperware sale stuff on Facebook. LulaRoe leggings. Jamberry fingernail stickers. Usborne books for kids that have fur on them...
I've got a couple of CutCo knives I like, though.

I was recently added on FB by this girl who's an old family friend. I hadn't seen her in like 20 years but figured why not—I find these kind of "hey, we were friends when we were 5, member?" types to be ridiculous but usually benign.
Anyway, realized within one day that she did nothing but post about some kind of herbal supplements that kill candida overgrowth in your body or some bullshit like that.
And to think I thought she just wanted to reminisce about Chuck E Cheese...

There's quite a ton of that snake oil-ish supplement stuff going on right now, and with far bigger reach than the typical neighbors-selling-Herbalife scenario. The phenomenon of the nootropic bro is something to behold...

I thought it was in FL, due to the Amway Center [where the Magic play]. Anyway.odontophobia wrote:Moved to Grand Rapids a year-ish later. Home of amway, America's best pyramid scheme. Fuck you're Dick Devos.
In 2009 I decided to spend some time on facebook, after making an account I didn't use back in 2006. I was contacted by an old not-close friend I hadn't seen in 9 years, with a "business opportunity" as he was "starting up something and figured you're good with people so I want you on my team!"
Exchanged numbers, he left me a message saying to drive 25 min to meet him at the hotel where I was given the impression he'd be, dressed in *business casual* [YUCK] where I expected we'd be dining at the hotel restaurant. Parking was a bitch, had to pay and walk, and walk and walk. I arrive at the hotel lobby and was steered into a conference room by a couple of women and a fella behind a card table where this presentation was about to begin, with rows of folding chairs set up. Immediately upon seeing this I realized what it was, but stuck around to listen. Sat by myself and found out about Amway. Didn't know of it beforehand but I was familiar with pyramid schemes. Midway through, some fella sat next to me and made with the chitchat, what kind of stuff am I interested in and so on, who sent me etc. Anyway, I stuck around for a long hour to validate my parking and dipped tf out. Haven't heard from *my friend* since.
I kept thinking about this scene from Garden State, which was coincidentally filmed in our old neck of the woods, at a time when I worked in a hardware store...not the one from the film heh https://youtu.be/UPGHjf2GqMQ?t=1m6s

Yeah. I didn't know until the last year that Amway was also big in Orlando. The DeVos family lives in Grand Rapids and it's reasonably annoying.popvulture wrote:And of course our future secretary of education is married to the Amway heir.

And. Yeah. The department of education nominee is married to the owner of amway. Her brother is the owner of black water.
The DeVos family is also hyper religious and want the schools to be more involved with the lord.

I forgot about a friend of mine who tried to sell Melaleuca. He gathered a bunch of us broke-ass stoner community college students into his apartment and made us listen to him practice his spiel. Then we were supposed to go home and see if our parents would take an appointment with him, I think. Anyway, when I reported back that my mom said it was a pyramid scheme, he got mad and said "It's not a pyramid scheme. It's multi-level marketing. There's a difference!" But he couldn't convincingly explain what the difference was.foomanfat wrote:I had a bandmate who got into a "multi level marketing" thing and was very upset when I called it a pyramid scheme.
This is a very impressive collection of Roto Toms. That's 21 Roto Toms in all. That is only $33.00 a Roto Tom.
