Happened last night. Woke up to it this morning. Knew many people that lived in the space. The people that I'm close with are ok, but theres many many many people that are probably dead. Its a sad day.

Its also really sobering: I almost lived in this space before I moved in with my now fiancee. Had I done that, I know I would have spent most of my time inside and would have probably been at the show at the time of the fire. I could have been one of those victims. Its fucking me up a little. Really scary shit.

On top of all that, it was a beautiful space. I actually used it as art on my latest release cause of how inspiring it was.

Just a sad day all around.

Yea man. I can't imagine. It really upsets me too. Music to me is this bright shining light that just makes living easier and better. I hate when it ends up being the center of tragedy like this. Its not right.

Yea, it was a dual purpose living/art space and venue. The living space was downstairs, upstairs was the venue. It was really cool, had all these shrines n stuff, like something out of a ghibli movie. But part of the reason I didn't move in is because of the flimsy stairs going to the performance space and just in general it gave me "don't live here, not for you" vibes.

Jeez, I monitor fires all the time for work, and that sort of death toll is totally out of the ordinary/scary/shocking.

Do you know if the place was legal? All the reports are talking about no sprinklers and those rickety wooden stairs as the only means of egress from the 2nd floor.

And on a related note, there was a humongous 10-alarm fire ripping through tons of triple-deckers in Cambridge, MA today, and it's only a couple blocks from where my bandmate and his wife live. They're fine, but holy shit was that scary.

The city planning and building department had previously investigated the warehouse due to complaints about trash outside the property and illegal internal structures built inside the warehouse, said Darin Ranelletti, the department’s director. Complaints had been filed about the building as recently as November.

Ranelletti said authorities are still investigating whether people were living in the building. Due to the building’s zoning, neither habitation nor a concert would have been legal without permits.

One survivor, Bob Mule, said he was one of 18 artists living in the warehouse, according to the Associated Press. In an interview with KGO-TV, Mule said he and another person saw the fire and started yelling. “The fire went up really, really, really quickly,” he said

Yeah I'm glad to hear all my ILF and non ILF friends seem to have come out of it safely. Never been to that spot but heard lots of great things. Donated.

I created an account just to say this. ILF member PsychicVampire was Feral Pines. She was one of my dearest friends. I loved her like she was my own sister. She loved talking about this forum, and how decent people here were to her. All of us that knew her and Cash Askew and Em Bohlka, who were also killed in the fire, are fighting a hard uphill battle against misgendering and deadnaming in the press. We could use any help possible with calling or emailing press editors to make sure they don't continue to deadname her.
