Muff / Octavia in same box with one button?

Post by johnetone »

Is there a "muff" style fuzz that sounds good with bass and detuned guitars that also has the upper harmonics and splattiness that you can get out of an "Octavia" style fuzz? What's your favorite?

I'm asking because I love the "muff" clones for their bass response, but I love the secondary noises and harmonics that "octavia" style fuzzes offer.

Otherwise, is there a good "octavia" style fuzz that sounds awesome with bass and detuned guitars? I had a Chicago Iron and had to let it go, because it just didn't have the bass response I was looking for.

Thanks ~ Tone :!!!:

My favorite box that does this right now is the Hoof Reaper. But I kinda wish it was just one pedal with one button. is that out there?

Not sure, but probably not. You could always just have someone build you exactly what you want.

I'm with Chank on this one. It sounds like you want an Octavia with a bass boost to me. Check out the builders forum and the shark tank.

I know Ryan @ fuzzrocious has build a grey stache with an octave up mod.

If you want octave-up fuzz with huge low end, you need a Buzzz.

Plus it is great on regular guitars but it possibly sounds even more awesome on bass and downtuned guitars. :D

Those Maxon Elements are all pretty awesome, but I love the way the Void element sounds the best! Not what I am looking for however. Great suggestion, I hadn't thought about those for a while!

So assuming you're looking for something other than the Buzz(zzzzzzzzzz...z) can you maybe post some clips of the sort of tone you're going for? I think I know what you want (tone wise, not sure abt. what pedal I'd recommend yet) but I might be wrong.

Dude, I think the fuzzz might be it! To be clear I loved my Chicago iron Octavian for a long time! But it just didn't pass enough low frequencies. I sold it without a replacement and have been kind of bummed since. I still have my Octron 2 by Dave at FoxRox. But that is a somewhat different animal than a fuzz. Anyway, the Spaceman Sputnik is about the coolest thing I've ever heard. I wish I had known back when I first heard it in the Pedals and Effects fuzz wars that it was a limited run. Because it wasn't until this year that I decided it was time to get one. Anyway, those will probably never come around again, or if they do I won't have enough dough or be fast enough to get one before the Reverb Pedal Scalpers get them all! So the Buzzz certainly is at the top of my list right now. I also like the Dwarfcraft Silver Rose. But I think the Buzzz sounds more musical and less industrial. 10 years ago I might have gone Silver Rose, but even though it has 2 pedals in one so to speak, it doesn't seem to have a happy place if you know what I mean? Anyway, thanks for keeping this thread going! I Love Fuzz!!!
