Damnit. My wireless mouse/keyboard are acting weird...IT guy just left.
But I was thinking of you, Rusty, when I wrote 'moderation.' So we're back to full circle.

It's an honor to hold a conversation with you, sir.
I totally get what you're saying, which is why I give most people the benefit of the doubt the insanity plea carries with it, but at the same time I feel as though there are certain demographics you just can't bridge that gap with.
Mostly because logic and the sense that basic decency and compassion toward each other makes just aren't there to appeal to.
As Rusty pointed out, there are gaping holes in her theosophy, and then applied behaviour, so I doubt she's ever going to reflect on her actions and think, "wow. What I said to that young man for just wearing a shirt was awful. I need to make changes." People like that aren't going to see the world as the grey mess it really is, they sustain the 'us and them' (not going to post Floyd, although I really want to), so maybe they could do with a little ugly confrontation?
Some people really just need some shit spelled out for them I guess.
Fuck, I think we all do from time to time

I met enough people who took acid freshman year of college and acted like they were Jesus the entire time after. Imagine if you already knew you were Jesus when you dosed. I think the hubris can dictate the experience of a great swath of drugs. Like that weird fuckstick who was violent on weed--it ain't the weed, it's the fuckstick. (Unless it was PCP-laced, I guess, but this guy was a psychotic piece of work full time, so Occam's Razor.)Iommic Pope wrote: Ergot should have given JC a mass introspective hole to crawl into and assess his self and place in the universe more clearly.
Pretty sure he was just hammering the wine and hubris.

That^ is an excellent point and was sorely overlooked when I made that statement.
Never thought I was the centre of the universe when dropping acid.
But I guess some serious Tool fans listening to Lateralus and tripping in their first year might arrive at that final destination.
(Statement intended to annoy pretentious 30-sometihng Tool fans.)

Diffusing conflict is a rare skill. Especially while remaining neutral. Rule #1 is never tell someone to "relax" or any variant of "calm down" unless you're prepared to become the focus of their now-amplified ire.

Oh fuck no.
Usually, I find bouncing questions about their argument back onto them can be an effective way to help them realise they can't even follow their own argument or that they're being basically indecent.
I did have someone who has genuinely lost her marbles get accusatory at me after this the other week so I just said "OK." and walked away.
There really wasn't much else to say.

(Thought it was in the spirit of this thread.)
Eh, you're right. I guess I just want to argue about it. Something about this rubs me the wrong way. Probably because it's Space, and, based on what I read about him on a fuzz pedal forum, he does not sound like the best ambassador for representing the wayward youth of today to...well, anyone. And not to get all misty about it, but my favorite thing to do is to try and bridge those un-bridgeable gaps. Rarely works, but I think it does something to make people remember that we're actual fucking human beings and not just fleshy representations of some imagined evil. No one ever 'changes their mind' based on those kinds of interactions (conversation is too generous to describe this), but they can burrow themselves in over time and do some gradual work. Basically, what you said about black/white/grey: it's nuts, but some folks really have no conception of individual subjectivity. Name-calling is kinda the opposite of that, though I can't say he was wrong to do it. Also seems weird to start a thread about it...but it's been praised, which is why I'm writing about it now.Iommic Pope wrote:I totally get what you're saying, which is why I give most people the benefit of the doubt the insanity plea carries with it, but at the same time I feel as though there are certain demographics you just can't bridge that gap with.

Fuck, I think we all do from time to time
My bride worked at a Center for Forensic Psychiatry for a while...a place where you're sentenced if you're found 'not guilty' by reason of insanity, or if you're incompetent to stand trial. Holy shit, the stories she brought home. Most of the people there had messianic delusions. A lot of them committed the crimes they committed because they saw demons (or reptilians, though that's a little more cringe-y in light of recent events). Basically, there's a ton of overlap between mental health issues and religious delusion...I have no idea where that comes from.Gone Fission wrote:I met enough people who took acid freshman year of college and acted like they were Jesus the entire time after. Though one guy thought he was John Bonham. He 'only took directions from Jimmy Page,' 'only drank Coke and Colt 45,' and, after threatening to kill my wife for 'writing too much about him' during his eval, grabbed a bag of chips out of the trash and licked the inside of it clean.

Not gonna argue with you IMan.
Totally understand where you're coming from.
And, FUCK YOU!
I have a theory on the whole overlap between religious fervor and mental health, but it ain't gonna be popular to espouse openly.

Nah, argue away. You've got me thinking, which is the opposite of what would happen if you called me a cunt. And you should float your theory, anyway. I've got nothing on that--waaaay too confusing for me.Iommic Pope wrote:Not gonna argue with you IMan.

That lady just took the news back to her weird little circle of biddies (Circle of Biddies), watched them react in horror, had a talk about persecution, and felt more justified in her actions. Not a victory for fuzz. That's all I'm trying to say.
