Help me find music like the Books
Basically what it says on the tin. Relatively calm experimental music with found sources. Or at least bands that go for the same sound as the books did.

Re: Help me find music like the Books
I mentioned Glassine's No Stairway in another thread and mistakenly recalled it as vaporwave (no doubt because I bought my copy from a cassette label that usually deals in that kind of stuff), but it's really more experimental / manipulated found sound. It's made from field recordings at Guitar Center

It's not quite like the Books (nothing really is), but similar-ish and very relaxing. Will definitely stay tuned to this thread to see if anybody else has suggestions, because I always want more Books-y stuff as well, rare as it may be.

I assume the Residents are too obvious.
But, yeah, BoC is another easy one. You might like the Book of Air series, too, but that might be a little too 'non-song' for what you're looking for:

I feel like Matmos have more than a few similarities. Gastr Del Sol is a great rec. Maybe Cornelius? The Notwist?

Re: Help me find music like the Books
This some wicked shit here. I'll add some of my findings when I get near my computer. Generally ive been scratching the itch with Music for Airports by Enough in the meantime. Not what I wanted stylistically but close enough to the energy I was looking for.
Also reinforces my idea to make music like this —with my own twists, of course.

Fennesz is an artist I forgot about that scratched the itch.
Also, and heavily recommended, the Damon Albarn's Everyday Robots solo record. It's not like the Books per se, but the Hip-Hop/Trip-hop production on his soft songs give it some similarities, with the sampling and such.

If you've never listened to Blithe Field, he's got some similar stuff. Less in-your-face than The Books - more sedated/ambient for sure, but there are plenty complicated and knotty textures nonetheless. If you appreciate the sound collage-iness of The Books mainly, you'll find this one pretty rewarding I bet.

solo tunes:
completed works || loosey goosey releases
associated acts:
Raab Zamboni (fake jazz/real noise//sax, modular synth, editing, misc) || Field Guide (my best friends//sax on 2 tracks)
I make t-shirts, patches, koozies, buttons, CDs, sometimes tapes, and eventually i'll start working on pedals again. DM me for pricing!

Yes, this is my jam.
Edit: It almost feels like Akashrub played the guitar parts.

Re: Help me find music like the Books
That Albarn record is indeed great, but I'll admit I'm a bit biased, as Blur's probably my favorite band ever
I feel like The Books took a lot of cues from New Age, definitely a lot of stuff out there that feels a related. Robert Rich gets mentioned from time to time on here, and Laraaji. Stones Throw has been putting out some awesome collections on tape—I've really enjoyed the Laraaji box, and want to pick up the recent SunPath. Good shit, highly relaxing.

Oh yeah, the work of Susumu Hirasawa is also great in its eclectic instrumentation, not sampled, but has the same feel.
