'a cult of totalitarianism' is so vague as to be meaningless, though. That's my point.

OK...well I disagree with your conclusion... while agreeing the goals of *being PC* are vague, at a loss for meaning, even.
Can you better expound on your point, why it is consequential... or are you breaking my balls by nitpicking language and offering red herring as critique of my analysis?

As per always, i think your critique of political correctness is based on a straw-man. Not to say that no one behaves the way you are talking about, but to say that you lump in vast swathes of the population with numerous and varied critiques into one homogeneous constructed "cult" (so to speak) that really doesn't exist in the way you think it does. But there's that whole lead a horse to water problem; no amount of arguing from either side of this argument is going to accomplish anything unless people on the other side are willing to hear the critiques.

There have more than probably been instances of "political correctness" used in efforts to censor other people's speech. More often though, it is simply a (relatively ineffective but necessary) tool used to balance some of the wild and blatant imbalances in quality of life that many people experience. But we've gone down this path. I can tell you about the things i and my friends experience, but for some people it seems until they experience those things themselves, they won't believe that there's a systemic issue going on. Which, fine. It infuriates me, but i'm not going to change the mind of someone on the internet.

No, what I'm saying is that the behavior you're standing in opposition to does not seem to be different in any marked way to any other shame-based preservation of cultural hegemony, so why rail against 'being PC' (when you can't even define what that looks like, per the quote above) when really you're just not a fan of the Scarlet Letter, whatever the form? Probably because it's more fun to be 'anti-' something and push buttons?

This is what I mean by the Carlin bit from earlier -- yeah, he offered some very bitter and very scathing jabs at SbPoCH... in 1990. I don't think he was lamenting the fact that he wasn't going to be able to call anyone a fucking homo in 2016, had he lived that long. Calling people on bullshit is a two way street.

I think that's true of a lot of things.

Just another arrow in the quiver of my argument for experiential learning.

Suggesting my critique is based on a straw argument is a mistake. Again, I return to Matt Taylor for a specific example. He was the subject of a PC witch hunt, justified by hateful zealots. Which part of that situation was necessary to correct?

Hard to tell if you're speaking in generalizations or specifics sometimes...but the things you and your friends experience aren't unique. Suffering is not unique. Even due to your specific set of niche circumstances. I'm not saying your struggle is imagined. I'm not saying it's deserved or just. But sentiment and bias do cloud perception, are more powerful than fact. It's how narratives are spun and platitudes perpetuate no matter what the evidence is.
NSFW: show
I know a bit about trauma. Personal and by proxy.
I suffered a terrible year in grade school when I had the misfortune of a teacher who didn't think highly of little boys & always found fault, singling me out. I still have a copy of the report card where in the first marking period I "wasn't participating enough in group discussion" ...and then later how I was *too disruptive* because she didn't like what I had to say. It lead to health issues, stress related stomach aches. Now imagine watching the clock every day as a 10 year old, from morning bell until lunch. Then until dismissal. Worst teacher I had. Yes she was a feminist. But one of my best teachers was also a feminist...I'm not about to indiscriminately lump them together.

I suffered a full year of systemic harassment in middle school due to a rumor and lie spread by my gf's gf, who set me up & took an *inappropriate* joke seriously... ultimately sabotaging our relationship and reducing me to a grade-wide punchline. Nobody cared about getting the details right, just giving me shit. A number of peers even conspired to prank and further humiliate me. Mostly girls. I'm not about to blame all girls or kids. Just a very specific type of behavior, where it was determined I deserved abuse.

I've suffered 2 full years of systemic harassment in the form of an apathetic insurance company mishandling a worker's comp case which could have crippled me. Jumping through hoops and dodging intentional attempts to make me give up and go away. Feelings of persecution are only natural in navigating bureaucracy, but it aint always the case. Once again it was a woman in charge of my case. But I'm not about to blame all women for my struggles.
Anyway...

Political correctness isn't simply used as a tool for fairness, balance, civility and justice. No. More often than not It's a bludgeon to exert power and control externally, reflexively abused by snowflakes who feel entitled to special (not decent) treatment; and narcissists who seek to remake the world and its inhabitants in their preferred image. Again, back to Matt Taylor...some uppity blogger didn't like his shirt and chose to characterize it as "sending a bad message to women" making their personal grievances a public concern, branding him *an inferior* deserving target of a witch hunt.

PC doesn't own the rights to equal opportunity, manners, decency. Balance.
It does provide many polished, poorly fitting paving stones for the safe passage to hell.

I can define what *being PC* means. Thought I had in these last several posts, pretty sure the info is all there.
It's a cult of totalitarianism. A bludgeon for oppression of individual thought & liberty presented as well-intentioned collectivism.
It is a tool for restriction & constriction, with narrowly defined "right" and "wrong" ways to say and do things. Another orthodoxy.
As someone who considers myself a creative type...I see it does NOTHING to facilitate creativity or humor. Only impede it.

I try to avoid characterizing any part of my identity as being "anti" anything (despite iconoclastic tendencies) ...I'd rather push buttons on gear.
I agree calling people on bullshit is a 2way street. However, PC is bullshit in 1 direction: the regressive one.

So if it's this great monolithic entity/pervasive attitude, surely you can link me to a website or something that defines itself, proudly, as a gathering point for political correctness?

Otherwise it just seems like a pejorative -- a justifiable pejorative in some cases, sure, but basically a spectre nonetheless.

Re the thread title.

I don't think Trump has a chance in hell of winning to be honest. I know the polls are pretty close, but he just cannot shut his fucking mouth long enough. Which ultimately will dig his grave IMO. But the funny thing is I could argue why I believe he said each thing he has said that has dug his grave and somewhat understand why he said them. I won't argue them, but I could.

What's disturbing to me, is this whole time, I've had this suspicion that Trump is in this race to boost Clinton. I know it's kind of the conspiracy theory type bs that I don't like, but it just looks that way to me.

I don't think the polls are close? I mean even Brietbart tried to "unskew" them and couldn't massage the numbers enough to show anything smaller than a 5 point Clinton lead, I think, and they definitely poked the data from every angle even to get that.
