It could go strictly Jennifer Connelly and I'd be happy enough.popvulture wrote:If this thread turned into a 90s eternal babe, I'd be quite happy.

Re: Stranger Things
Yeah the show was stellar! It pulled from a lot of pop culture tropes, but never came of as cliche (or at least the negative side of cliche). I also enjoyed how each age group had their own worthwhile storyline - I imagine this would be a great show to watch with anyone near any of the age groups portrayed.
Plus as y'all have said, the soundtrack is stellar. I've seen S U R V I V E a few times, and also caught solo sets by Michael Stein and Kyle Dixon (the two who did the soundtrack) at a local recurring event called Dallas Ambient Music Nights (DAMN). This is by far their highest profile project yet (altho they have a record coming out on Relapse Records next month), and I'm glad they've been so well received.

solo tunes:
completed works || loosey goosey releases
associated acts:
Raab Zamboni (fake jazz/real noise//sax, modular synth, editing, misc) || Field Guide (my best friends//sax on 2 tracks)
I make t-shirts, patches, koozies, buttons, CDs, sometimes tapes, and eventually i'll start working on pedals again. DM me for pricing!

Re: Stranger Things
Watched it all on sunday. absolutely killer show/story telling. Ready for more, and can't wait to see how much darker they plan to take it cause it was already pretty dark for this season.

Agreed! I've read this about a thousand times, but...this really is a golden age for tv (and pedlols and modular synths). Nice to see that people are really invested in their craft, and are really going for it.ShaolinLambKiller wrote:absolutely killer storytelling

I don't really want another season of this? I like the mystery and unknown, and it really felt like they wrapped things up really well?

Re: Stranger Things
Kinda hoped it'd be an anthology, but I read somewhere that the creators want to pursue these characters. At which point things tend to jump the shark...like, how much stuff can happen in this sleepy little town?
I'd say let it go, or do something completely different. Everyone had a good arc.

Yeah, I think more shows need to embrace the AHS-style anthology. That way everyone gets job security but no one has to worry about being written into a corner (at least not in a narrative sense).

Re: Stranger Things
But then again you can end up with a True Detective Season 2.

Just watched the first couple episodes last night with the Mrs. She woke me up at 3 am asking "So what do you think happened to Barb?"

Re: Stranger Things
People wouldn't complain so much if the seasons had been in opposite order. Season 2 was not fantastic, but it was very much above average even in this golden age of TV drama. It just had enormous shoes to fill coming second. HBO execs admitted that the real problem was that they rushed the second season to meet their production schedule, and that was probably more fatal than being stylistically different from the first season.popvulture wrote:But then again you can end up with a True Detective Season 2.

Re: Stranger Things
I agree—it wasn't so bad. As I've said before, it would've been totally fine if it just wasn't called True Detective.
