Can't help but feel you're only trying to make dough from us since pretty much all your posts are about "deals" where later on shit gets more and more expensive.
Not digging it.

Yeah I don't understand the point of "It's $500 but we are running a discount, then after the discount we are going to bump it down to the discounted prices anyway!"

Maybe somethings getting lost in translation with that, though.

I think he is saying that after the sale is over he will continue the sale price if you ask and that the money from these more difficult builds will be used to fund the new production (which may or may not be some people's things...there are proto collectors though).

Managed to fire up the soldering iron and install the BBD upgrade board for my v1 AD4096, taking it up to 800ms of delay. Easy enough install in the end: one trace to cut, two caps to add (one mylar, one mica), eight wires to solder (although there was an issue with the first upgrade boards and I had to wire in a little jumper there, too). Haven't had much of a play yet but everything sounds great so far. Delay is WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYY longer.

Had a really good play today with my upgraded AD4096 and came away very impressed. I think I actually prefer the sound with the upgrade board at pretty much every setting. The added filtering means there's way less clock noise and the tone actually sounds lighter - a little cleaner and more airy - than it did before. There's a purity to it I really like. And the extra delay time is awesome. If you've got a 4096, it's well worth giving it a try.

Yup, that's basically my take on the upgrade as well. I do enjoy the added delay time and somewhat "cleaner" repeats, though it did make me realize that through the last years I've ended up prefering slightly shorter delay times. Having the ability to do longer times is great though, especially in infinite mode where it basically becomes a weird looper of sorts.

How hard was the soldering? It looked a little surface-mounty to me which may be above my skill level. I'm fine with bigger contact points, but that was looking like the kind of thing where I'd lift a trace.

It was a little fiddly, but as long as you take your time you should be fine. The instructions are well written and easy to follow. I just watched the video a few times before I approached it, so I knew exactly what I was doing. I figured if I did break something I'd be able to fix it.

Aargh! Scouring the webs to find a V1 so I can get it modded, but there don't seem to be any out there for sale. I was afraid the extra filtering would make it dark and murky but this sounds like just what I'm looking for.

Rad. Definitely want to get the upgrade kit. This is a favorite pedal as is, and it sounds like the upgrades make it even better.

Here's a quick demo of my V1 Endangered Audio Research AD4096 delay modded with the BBD upgrade kit for extra delay time. Still had plenty of room left on the dial, too. Recorded directly into an iPad sitting on a chair. Guitar is Harvester #042, amp is a Bandmaster 5E7 clone, fuzz pedal is a Basic Audio Fuzz Mutant, wah is a Castledine. Nothing fancy, just trying to leave some space to give a good representation of the sound and the repeats. About halfway through the track (after the fuzz goes off but the wah is still on) the 4096 is switched to Infinity Mode for extra oscillating goodness.

There's also a trim pot for delay time inside. If you crank it, you'll get lofi, noisy delay with pretty long times. You'll loose the shortest delay time if you do it, though.
