On the contrary, I'll be glad to die & take my chances with reincarnation before humans can upload consciousness into some kind of dystopian nightmare. Humanity will not fare well with that kind of power to usurp mortality; life is fragile and look how poorly it's treated as is.
What I predict will result is the phenomena I call rental car syndrome or "not my problem" which is the conscious mishandling & abuse of temporary property. Also power, situationally. It's a meddlesome authoritarian's wet dream for control beyond illusions. No thanks.

Fun fact: that gun features in the early Fallout games (I wish they'd bring it back) as a tip of the hat to bleak futurism, and is my favourite handgun, along with the deagle.

We are getting closer to those anime stereotypes of puppet governments and cyborg candidates for sure. The whipping people up, the Molotov cocktails, the brink of civil war all the time. People are still freaked the fuck out by transhumanism though, so it'll be a while before you can get you your neural matrix interface installed.

Animals and manga from that 80s era of cyberpunk were more accurate than anything else (apart from Black Sabbath) in predicting the current state of things because it focused on the human elements. What do people do when shitbags make it obvious they're taking over completely? They fight back.
Robot police state be damned.

To bring it back to fallout though, I can't help but feel we're getting closer to that than a cyberpunk dystopia.
